Glad to have it as part of emergency kit
I don't go camping a lot, but I am one of those people who likes to have things like this on hand in case of an emergency where clean water may not be available - I live in FL and you never know what the aftermath of a hurricane might be.I tested this with my tap water. I was pleasantly surprised that the tap water actually tasted different (cleaner) when passed through this filter. We have hard water, but I've never tasted a difference using regular Brita filters, or even the Lifestraw straw.Since some of the bad reviews said it had a plasticky taste, I let the water sit in the bag overnight before drinking to see if that was true. There's no plasticky taste after 12 hours. I tried it again after 18 hours, and I could taste the plastic that they were talking about. I will try again after cleaning the system.Other bad reviews said the water wasn't trickling out fast enough. At first, I wasn't getting water out of it, but then I *gasp* read the directions and flushed the red backwash valve, and what do you know, it worked beautifully. If you are expecting it to flow like your tap at home, I guess you might think it was slow, but I'd be worried that it was ineffective if it came out any faster. So far, this is my favorite of all my emergency water supplies.

Excellent Product!
I just finished an 8-day canoe trip through the Allagash Wilderness Waterway in Maine. I'm SO glad I bought this filter! I almost bought an electrolytic purifier before I stumbled across the LifeStraw Mission. Getting drinkable water couldn't be easier! I'd hang it up at camp and let it dribble into 2-liter soda bottles, just check up on it every 20 minutes to swap out for an empty bottle. We started every day with 4 bottles full, plus quart bottles for drinking at your seat. We had the 12-liter for just the two of us, might sound like overkill but we could generate enough water for us for the next 24 hours in the amount of time it took to make breakfast and get packed up for the day. The only reason I'd buy the smaller version would be if I was backpacking and weight was critical. Even then, I doubt there's much of a weight difference, the size of the bag is the only thing that's different, and the bag is so light, can't be more than a few ounces between the two. This was effective and super easy to use. Plan on a few feet of para cord so you can hang it at the right height to meet your container. It works a bit faster if you have the hose hanging straight. Excellent product!!

Best of Four Filters I’ve Used
Just returned from a remote backpacking trip. I am on Amazon to reorder my backup water purification supplies in the event of a future equipment failure while remote camping. Seeing any negative reviews makes me wonder what could someone have to say that’s negative? I see almost all one star reviews are due to the bag not coming with. I remember when I bought mine in 2017 the bag was zip tied to the package so perhaps it fell off during handling. Get another one.I’ve used four filters now and this one has been my first gravity filter. I used pumps by other brands since the 1990s and say you can’t go wrong with this bag. I have my responsible 13-year old be in charge of the water for our trips and he does a great job. We run two bags through this system each day, so that’s 24 liters. The water tastes great and hasn’t let us down.I want to address the negative reviews. For starters, if you’re mad because this system didn’t work when you were out in some remote location I’d be mad too. But for golly sake- if you’re going to rely on something to provide water test it first at home. And the bag can be adjusted to let it do its thing without watching the paint dry. If you think it runs too slow you’re not experienced enough to know the difference. Try hand pump filters and you’ll see they are no fun and appreciate these gravity filters. Everyone that’s ever used this with me says the water tastes great. If it tastes plasticy then you probably have cheap plastic bottles or reservoirs that weren’t cleaned before use or are junky and will not lead to good water. And if you’re thinking of trying some random online off brand to save some money- I’d guess again. I would never jeopardize health in a remote location to save a buck.I recommend this but also recommend that you learn how if works, try it before you go, and have a backup plan in case you fall while climbing a steep ascent or stumble in a rock garden and break the filter. It only makes common sense. Happy camper-ing!

As expected and advertised.
It's plastic. It did have a light plastic flavor to it. I'm sure this will go away after a few uses, just like any other plastic item you drink from. I have not used this in a survival situation or camping situation yet. I only tested this device to see if the flow and production was as advertised. I am satisfied that it is. It seems to be fairly sturdy/durable. I'm sure if you abuse it, pack it wrong or fall on it while it is in a backpack you can damage or break it. I think it will suffice based on price and reviews I have read. I would buy another if I needed a second one.

Easy to use, seems to be working
This is a great product. Very easy to use. We were surprised to discover how dirty the drinking water on our tap really are.

Very impressed!
I cannot imagine how our recent group camping trip would have gone without this. It's amazing. The first couple of times of use, the flow rate was a little slow but it picked up very quickly, specially after our daily cleaning (as per instructions). We got the 12L version and it was more than enough for the four of us.

Endless drinking water!
This is a revelation! Camping for a month by a bog in wildest Scotland we filled the LifeStraw from the small waterfall every day and filled the van tanks - we had water to waste! No more driving miles to find a tap! The same on our live aboard boat on the Saonne river in France - clean 'household' water all the time! Fantastic!
