New English Paper Piecing: A Faster Approach to a Traditional Favorite

THE BEST beginning EPP book, and 10 wonderful patterns for sewists of all stages of skill.
Nice book by Sue Daley, for those learning her methods of English Paper Piecing as well as Appliqué techniques. The pictures support the writing, helping the reader to understand her concepts. Important tips are set out in boxes—you won’t miss them this way.GENERAL INFORMATION: Each step of EPP is clearly written about, from choosing fabrics, tools, to actually cutting fabric for specific shapes, applying glue, then sewing the pieces together. She further then provides information on binding and finishing your project.PROJECT SECTION: slightly more than 2/3 of the book is then spent on specific projects: project pictur, chart for yardage for various sizes & cutting instructions, then construction techniques. A bonus- templates that can be printed out for paper shapes, and to which can be added seam allowances for the fabric. (For beginners, many will not have all the templates and papers, and this is a great cost-saving feature of the book. Of course, one may go online and buy the pre-cut papers and plastic templates.)I anticipate using the entire book, as I am new to EPP, and this appears to be just what I need to learn a new skill.

Gives a breath of fresh air to English Paper Piecing.
I just love this book! I just recently got into paper piecing for a quilt I am doing. There are so many wonderful ideas and new shapes to consider. I am building up an applique and embroidery library. Perfect book to have for ideas and reference. One person complained about the paper shapes where hard to find. There are shape templates in the book. They can be traced onto clear stencil plastic and cut out. Then trace the shape onto 28 pound printer paper (found mine at Walmart) and cut out. The paper is heavy enough to use several times. It is not as convenient as buying the pre-cut shapes. If you are careful with tracing and cutting they will work fine and as a bonus are a bit cheaper.

Lovely and informative book
Sue Daley, the author, is a recognized authority on English paper piecing. I have several of her books. In this one she provides 10 projects with new shapes, fussy cutting info, and templates. I love this book. The fabrics she used are beautiful and timeless and her instructions are thorough and easy to follow. If you've tired of hexagons, buy this book and take your skills to levels as high as your creative imagination would like to go.

Don't buy New English Paper Piecing on Kindle keyboard
I made the mistake of buying this on my Kindle keyboard and cannot print out the patterns. My bad. I thought it was just info, not needing the printouts. Lesson learned. Great book otherwise.

A disappointing book
I was so looking forward to this book, but I wished I hadn't bothered to order it pre-publication. The author doesn't seem to have grasped the point of English paper piecing: she just stitches together a few ill-assorted shapes and then slaps them onto a whole fabric ground. Addicts of English piecing enjoy the peaceful rhythm of creating a new fabric piece by piece, but if you feel you need fast results I guess you would enjoy this book more than I did. It isn't going to stay in my resource library.

Excellant book
New English Paper Piecing - The clue is in the title and description of the book. This is a book with a twist on traditional EPP. It does not claim to be 'EPP' only. It has clear diagrams and instructions on how to achieve each pattern. The only draw back is the acrylic templates are very hard to find in the UK. However all templates are drawn to size in the book and can easily be traced to make your own templates. I would recommend this book. Anyone who enjoys EPP and is looking for some inspiration and a slightly different way of doing things will love it.

If you love English Paper piecing as I do this is a good book. The only problem is you have to make your own templates as they are not easy to get from the author. Sue Daley is well know for her innovative approach to English Paper piecing and this book lives up to expectations. As I have little time I would have liked to buy the templates which the only reason I gave it four stars.

No meat on English Paper Piecing
Very little EPP in this book. More of doing little bits and appliqueing them down. A very thin premise for a whole book, I regret spending money on this but it will go as a freebie to my quilt group.
