Oh Neely
The most frustrating thing abt this story is the main character Neely. I mean the fact that by now she hasn't figured out that she needs to actively use her powers so ppl don't get hurt is just dumb. The story picks up where we left off and Neely amd Lucas make plans to go and see Lucas' old alpha Malcom. Malcolm and his pack are batbleep crazy and you can see how they affect Lucas. We get introduced to other shifters and alpha leaders and madness ensues.Neely learns the depths of her power and its hinted at that there may be more to Neely than we think but this has been hinted at before. Same can be said for Neely's connection to Lucas which progresses here as well. It's a great read and I hope that by the next book the author toughens Neeely up and has her fully embracing her powers and herself or things can get old fast.

I haven't been this excited about a new author in years
I stumbled upon Spiked a few months ago, and LOVED it. I recommended it to friends, re-read it, and loved it even more. I was both excited and trepidatious about the sequel--would it be as good as Spiked? Would it disappoint? Would the series go downhill, as so many sophomore efforts do?No, no it did not. IT GOT EVEN BETTER.The first few chapters start out slowly, reintroducing us to Sundance and its people. A bit of time has passed, but Neely is still reeling from the death of *NO SPOILER*. Many of the inhabitants of Sundance blame her for the chaos that happened in the first book, and she blames herself. She's keeping her chin up, while trying to decide what direction her life will take now. Enter Malcolm, Lucas' old alpha from San Diego. He issues her an invitation that she can't refuse, so she reluctantly accepts. Lucas goes with her to help her navigate the snake pit that is the San Diego pack, despite the fact that Neely doesn't really trust him (or any alpha leader), and isn't sure where they stand with one another. My recap ends here, because I don't want to spoil anything, but at this point in the book, the action takes off and doesn't stop until the end. All the favorite characters (except the dead ones) are back, and there are some new and intriguing people introduced into the Neelyverse. Big Things happen. Characters grow and move forward. Intrigue. Danger. Life and death situations, with a good bit of humor mixed in where appropriate. It's a delicious story that leaves you wanting more, while resolving the plot without a cliffhanger.Good UF books, IMHO, combine the elements of magic and fantasy with realistic, credible characters. One of the best things about Neely is that she comes across as someone that you might know, that you would want to be friends with. She just happens to have telepathy and this seriously scary spiking ability. There are hints that she might have more--we learned in the first book that she's a powerful spiker--but thankfully the author doesn't fall into the trap of writing her as a Mary Sue. (If you don't know what a Mary Sue is, check Urban Dictionary. UF books are full of them).Likewise, Lucas, Chandra, the tower witches, and all the supporting characters are believable and three-dimensional. (More Earp, please!). Everyone's actions make sense, the plot twists and progression flow organically, and there are no points where you're confused by poor storytelling or narrative choices. I also saw few to no grammatical errors or typos, so hats off to the author for thorough editing before publishing. All in all, it's a fantastic book, well worth the purchase price. This series has gone on my personal list for automatic pre-order. If you haven't read Spiked first, do that, then come read this book. You'll enjoy it.

You should read this book!
I have read it twice in 2 weeks because this is a really great series. The characters are well developed; there is a reason behind their actions, so you don't turn the page puzzled or confused by the action. The plot is engaging , the story is very basic boy likes girl. Boy can turn into a giant and girl can murder you with her mind, but basically its a simple story that is enjoyable to read. You can relate to the antagonists and the author writes in terms of food, I understand that language and love a girl who sleeps in her granny night gown. And, don't get me started on Lucas Blacke. I'm in love. So strong and vulnerable. You should read this book..I never cared for humming as much as after I read this book. My husband loves it now too!

Summoned
This book has plenty of action and danger. The characters are great and entertaining. We learned more about each one. I can’t wait for the next book.

Witchcraft becoming too dominant
Starting to follow all the other fantasy book themes that witchcraft is more powerful than any of the other fictional powers. I hope her third drops that. So hard to find a fantasy book that isn’t mostly porn or evangelizing witchcraft.Otherwise good story, good characters, good dialog.

Even better than the first
I love this series, Neely is fabulous, moralistic and has an inner strength, clever, independent and makes Lucas work for everything, I love her, sure she has trust issues but who wouldn’t with her past. I love Dolores and Dottie, I would so read a spin off for those witches and Chandra needs her own book too, I love the friendship growing between her and Neely. Absolutely brilliant.
