An Extraordinary Egg

This is a wonderful tale about how you can’t judge a book by its cover.

Great story, students were laughing out loud every time I said chicken!

Our three year old *loves* this book. My first thought reading it was that actual alligator eggs are mushy on the outside, and thus impossible to roll over long distances or mistake for a chicken egg, both things the frogs do here after finding an alligator egg. But apparently, alligator eggs are hard like chicken eggs when first laid. The eggs have two layers, an outer hard layer and a leather-like inner layer. The outer layer thins as the embryo develops, and by the time of hatching, the egg is in fact leathery. So that part of the book where the alligator cracks its way out of its shell (noisily, no less) is scientifically inaccurate. Still the whole story is just totally adorbs.

This book is wonderful. It has become a favorite in our home. We purchased the book because of the above average vocabulary words in it. The story is cute and shows friendship among different creatures. I thought the humor of the book was great with the frogs convinced that the mystery egg was a chicken egg. They even call their new friend "chicken." Very cute book! We have really enjoyed it. I would highly recommend The Extraordinary Egg to others.

I had to buy this book after my child and I read it at the library. We were hysterical with laughter. Read it to the class at school and it was a hit. Great book. I do wish It was the hardback version bc that one is larger therefore the text was larger.

Really cute book with a fun story for pre-schoolers. We bought it for my sons classroom and all the kids loved it.

A clever, funny book! My kids (ages 3, 5, 7) request it often, and even quote the funny parts! Definitely recommend as a cute gift.

Super cute and a great story with a lesson about "knowing" things. The kids like it too.

It is good

I don't get it, but my kids freaking love this story! No accounting for taste, right? Fun to read, still tale.The typesetting is a bit unfriendly. Too small, too close...but anyway.

As usual Lionni's books are marvellous. This is not an exception. My baby (2.5 years old) loves it since the first reading.
