It held his interest and provided relatively in-depth information in a gentle, narrative tone -- easier to read aloud than those "busy" non-fiction books with fact bubbles and side boxes splotched all over the page. The only caveat is that the book mentions that enemies sometimes threw dead people, even severed heads, over castles walls during a siege. I'm sure that's true, but I don't think that detail needed to be in a book geared to such young children. Review: Great supplement to the story book! - We love all the research guides for MTH. They are written at a higher Lexile level than the stories but it makes them fun to read together. My 6 year old doesn't have the patience to read through a research guide the entire way through on her own but together it makes for a fun project...she gets to tell me about what happened in the story to Jack & Annie and together we learn some fun facts about whatever time/place the story was about.

Great supplement to the story book!

Great series of books
I bought a set of four of these books (knights, mummies, pirates, dinosaurs) with the accompanying research guides for my 5-yr old grandson, who is already an outstanding reader. He absolutely loves them and reads them either with his parents or to himself every night. They are his favorite books. The accompanying research guides that go with the stories are a fantastic learning experience which he also loves. I will definitely buy him more in the future of these Magic Tree House books and research guides! I am so thrilled I found this series. Magic Tree House Boxed Set, Books 1-4: Dinosaurs Before Dark, The Knight at Dawn, Mummies in the Morning, and Pirates Past Noon

Magic Tree House Series
These are excellent books for a young reader. They are challenging enough to stay interesting, but not so difficult that they are discouraging. The topics are very interesting to both girls and boys, as are the main characters. We will buy more of the series.

Great guide
Our homeschool year revolves around Jake and Annie’s adventures. It’s fun for my kids to get in character and act out the times in the books. The fact checker books are wonderful to help separate the fiction from what really might have happened.

Great imagination & stories
Enjoying the book along with the Playmobil castle & other sets. All the Magic Tree House books are #1 in my home. We collected many for our 1st grandson & introducing them to 4yr old grandson. Great imagination & stories.

Homeschool Gem
This book is a homeschooling gem, when used with the fiction story it allows the student to learn a subject with both fun and facts. I have a child who loves facts but doesn't really like to read fiction stories. Now I can get him to read both styles for one area of interest. I highly recommend these companion books!

My son is a big fan of magic tree house books, the book was delivered in the morning and I kept it beside my son's bed so he can see it when he wakes up. He was so happy and excited to see the book that he finished it just one day. Great book!

One of the better Jack and Annie companion books. And we've read most of them.
