Soundtrack to the Academy Award winning film, the tracks effectively mirrors the desires and lives that the film capitalizes on: restlessness, ennui, doubt, and unrequited love rule here. Elliot Smith contributes the most, and the best, songs, beautiful weepers that outshine Danny Elfman's somber original score, which makes only a few appearances. Album also features a handful of pop songs by other artists, including the Waterboys, Luscious Jackson, Andru Donalds, and the Dandy Warhols.

Great for collectors
My thoughts:A couple songs skip when the record is played. I'll try to clean it up again to see if it improves.Regarding the music, this album is pretty much about the "pop" songs in the soundtrack. Only a couple Danny Elfman pieces. But I knew this before buying it.It doesn't include any sleeves with lyrics or any other paper inside. And despite it is a double record album, it doesn't open like many double gatefold albums. Therefore the two records are pressed against each other.Anyway, I bought it because I love the movie and Elliot Smith's music, so I'm happy with my purchase.

A Most Underrated, Valued Soundtrack...
I'm biased, but this movie reminds me of one of the best dates of my life and is one of the best compilations of the sad, tortured genius that was Elliot Smith. Probably one of Robin Williams best performances (e.g. Good Morning, Vietnam, Dead Poets Society, and The Fisher King). Too bad Matt Damon and that other kid turned out to be such political hacks and haven't come close to doing quality film-making they did when they hit a homerun with this movie. Kudos for the decision to bravely use Elliot Smith as much as he was incorporated and for using great recall to bring back Al Green and Gerry Rafferty with such creativeness...

This CD would be nothing without Elliot Smith
Elliot Smith is so amazing. The rest of the songs are pretty mediocre though.

For Any Good Will Hunting Fan
Bought the album because I'm such a huge fan of the movie. I love listening to it and being able to picture different scenes and put myself in the the frame of mind of whatever was happening in the film. Led me to listen to other music by Elliot Smith as well!

Yes this has Miss Misery!
This contains a great collection of Elliot Smith songs including his best songs ever written: "Between the Bars" and "Miss Misery." If you didn't feel like owning XO (because you are really poor or you live under a wicked stepmother that only lets you own one cd) then this would be a great one to own. If you have even a meager salary however, be sure to get XO as well as Either/Or by Elliott Smith.

Bloody good soundtrack!
I have seen the film many times and wondered who the musical artist was who sung the song that the credits went up to. Elliott Smith voice is amazing! I would have bought an album solely with his music on - I might still do so, but I also love Gerry Rafferty's Baker Street it has so many memories for me. So all in all I highly recommend this Album.
