Handbook on the Prophets

It used to be that the only thing I knew about Jonah was about the same as most children know about Adam and Eve or Noah. I knew he was swallowed by a great fish and the fish spit him out. HOWEVER, I had no idea how the story fit into prophecy or our current events. "Handbook on the Prophets was eye-opening and I intend to use it often as a reference book. My favorite so far has been about Zephaniah and "The Day of the Lord". I'm looking forward to His coming!

This book is not light reading. It is a serious study of the Old Testament Prophets their time and their work. It is a great resource when working your way through any study of the books written by the prophets. It give you insight to general time frame of prophecies, the context into which the prophecies were written, and the subsequent fulfillment of those prophecies.

It’s a very good book it a person wishes to study more than just the verses it gives clarity to time period and what’s going on around the events and what reasons God led the prophets to do what was needed to be done

This book comes from the Catholic perspective which is what I wanted. Very helpful in explaining the prophets; what they were saying, why they said it, who their audience was and in frame of reference to Israel history.

I order a used copy. It arrived quickly and was in very good condition. I am finding it very helpful in preparing for my class. Happy that I purchased it and recommend it to anyone wanting to understand the Prophets. The book gives many good details that make the study interesting.

I love Chisholm. The way that he presents both sides of Biblical academic thought is a breath of fresh air! He explains the extremes and then discusses them in an intellectual manner. One of my favorite college books!

Purchased for college as a required reading book. as it turns out I really enjoy the commentary and would recommend this book to anyone.

An excellent read. Lots of information, very scholarly written.
