Southern Africa 6 (Lonely Planet)

As all Lonely Planet books are...great. Lots of info on hidden sites where you can avoid the big tourist busses. Also good for the independent traveller, especially in Africa where some areas can be sketchy. Left ours with a wildlife guide who was pleased with the well-written history and cultural tips, as well as great wildlife info. Really good whether you travel w/ a big safari group or on your own.

Great guide for planning your trip. I used this one to plane for an upcoming trip to Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botwsana and South Africa. It has good recommendations of places (i booked my hostels using this book and crosschecking with tripadvisor). It has the same info from some country guides of Africa. I bought the one from Namibia and Botwsana and the Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique. These 2 have basically the same info as this one but with a few more hotels and restaurants indications. I would recommend buying this one as your have a multi-country guide and it's not so heavy (lighter than the LP's editions of India and Thailand)

Just what I was looking for in planning a trip to Victoria Falls and the surrounding area. It's Informative and interesting to read when looking through it in preliminary planning. I've used Lonley Plannet books before while traveling and have found them usefull in exploring. I would probably take this book with me on a trip.

Includes: - maps - top sights in region + each country - suggestions for lodging within different budgets (and honest commentary such as 'in the dodgy part of town' or 'some travelers report rooms as being too noisy') - suggested restaurants & entertainment - medical/emergency contacts - transportation for getting from one city/country to another

All the nuisances you need to create your own itinerary! Best pieces of advice! Read this and use it on your trip!

maybe it's just too much territory to cover in one book, but there's just not enough detail to be really helpful. They list their top destinations, but then one of their favorite destinations in all of southern Africa will get like a page and a half on it. I can't plan a trip with a page and a half on the 5 places I decide I want to go.

My wife and I purchased this book a few days prior to our trip to Africa. Its a good read on your iPad (ebook), but is missing some details. Would recommend taking the information from the book and do additional online research for specific things you are looking to do.
