This is #4 in the series of 10
Fun read and keeps one guessing as to 'who done it'.

Hollywood type drama.
I'm not a big fan of Hollywood drama so this wasn't a big favorite of mine. I thought the suspects were mostly annoying. I was expecting more of a different kind of magical resolution than I got in the end. The magic that was hinted about in the beginning turned out to be pretty mundane. Her firefighter getting some powers was interesting.

Not enchanted
I have been reading the Magical Bakery series and enjoying a lot, but this book makes me wonder if I should continue with the series. As in the other MB books, Katie Lightfoot is an exceptionally powerful witch living in Savanna, Georgia. She runs a bakery with her aunt, also a witch, and uncle, not a witch, where she and her aunt add positive magical energy to their products. The other major recurring characters are the members of Katie and her aunt’s coven, her friend Steve (an equally powerful Druid), detective Quinn, her canine familiar Mungo, and her boyfriend Declan (who has no interest in magic). This book finds Katie and her crew mixed up with a murder on the set of a film. As always the murder has ties to magic and it’s up to Katie to find out whodunnit. This is the weakest book in the series so far. The motivation for the murder comes completely out of the blue and is at best far-fetched. In fact the whole book dives too far into fantasy for me. Let me first say that I am a Nature Witch, I’ve seen and done things similar to what Katie has done in these books, including preventing more than one car accident by shielding (although nobody glowed afterwards), but in this book my skepticism snapped when someone who has shown no magical talent suddenly turns mega unusually powerful (somehow because of Katie)?! AND that person suddenly comes forward as having an elemental as a relative, hmmmm. Overall this book seemed hastily written and uninspired. In addition, I find it appalling how cavalier the characters in this book are regarding stealing people’s pets. Katie’s beloved Mungo shows up as an immaculately trained, obviously spoiled and well-cared for purebred puppy (who doesn’t act like any terrier ever, more like a”Fur Real Friend”), and she makes absolutely no attempt at finding out who is missing their beloved family member. In fact she’s quite content about “pup-nabbing” him, never having any pangs of guilt or wondering about his actual family (yes he is a familiar, but he has a physical form which means he was born just like any other animal- he came from a home). Later another member of the coven discovers a wonderfully tame baby ferret in their workplace and also keeps it without giving a second thought that out was obviously someone else’s rightful companion. I worked in a shelter for four years, I understand that people abandon animals all to often and for the craziest reasons, but just assuming an animal is abandoned and not attempting to find if someone is looking for it is legally stealing and morally reprehensible.

My favorite cozy mysteries
I love Bailey Cates’s Magical Bakery Series. I’ve really enjoyed every book. It’s been fun following Katie Lightfoot and her Spellbook Club, and each member’s familiars, and all the baked goods, and all their fun adventures. The books are very well-written whodunnits with a magical twist. This is my fav cozy mysteries series and if you like cozies you will really enjoy these, they never disappoint.1. Brownies and Broomsticks2. Bewitched, Bothered, and Biscotti3. Charms and Chocolate Chips4. Some Enchanted Eclair5. Magic and Macaroons6. Spells and Scones7. Potions and Pastries8. Another well made story
Movie magic has hit the town, and Katie and Honeybees has seen an increase in business as Uncle Ben and Declan run security on the set. And then they are asked to cater for the group as the old caterer gets fired half way through the filming, she is happy to help (and see a good increase in her profits). But when she visits the set to see her boyfriend, a scream brings about the discovery of another body - as well as a cryptic message that she will be the one to find out who did it, not to mention she gets a request to help from Detective Quinn himself, provided she does not take it as permission to actively investigate. Now Katie and the spellcraft group need to pull out some magic of their own as she goes down the path of stars to find out who did it, before she ends up edited from the scene. This series has not let up in the least. Everyone you know and love are back (or at least mentioned) and the story draws you in as it always. This one seems to be an open an shut case, but I will say beware of the red herrings as not all is as they appear, and there is a surprise about a certain character that will take you unawares until closer to the end. If you enjoyed the first three, grab this title and dig into the southern comfort of Honeybees once again.

A movie leads to murder
This is the 4th book in the series. Everything is hectic with a historical movie being filmed in Savannah. With Ben working as head of security, the bakery is a bit short-handed, but they rally when asked to fill in and provide lunch when the contracted caterer fails to deliver. Katie’s boyfriend, Declan, and some of the other off duty firefighters are also working with Ben. When she arrives to collect up their supplies, she is shocked to find that a man has been stabbed with one of their catering knives. Determined to find out the truth, Katie works with her fellow witches to try and figure out who the killer might be, even participating in a seance, where she finds out a surprising secret from Declan’s past that may impact their relationship. As usual, the book is filled with tasty descriptions of food and a nice set of recipes at the end of the book.

Three Stars
Light hearted and fun. Not as good as earlier books in the series but still a fun read.
