Great Book, a must read!
Let me start by saying I thought this book was excellent. I've read about all there is when it comes to Everest and this is not your typical Everest book. Bear, best known in America for the TV show Man vs. Wild, does an excellent job bringing you into his climb of the worlds highest peak. What the "other" Everest books always seemed to lack, in hindsight, was humor, something this book has no shortage of. Probably one of the most interesting and favorite parts of the book for me were his descriptions of the mountain. He does a great job painting the picture of what he sees, something I've always thought the big name Everest writers have lacked. His descriptions of the view (top to bottom) and the western Cwm/South Col really helped me envision a place I will likely never see. Bear is a storyteller and it shows in this book. As I said before, I found the humor a pleasant surprise and I found myself laughing out loud on numerous occasions. But Bear also knew how to bring the book to a serious point when the story called for it. His story is amazing and inspiring. Do yourself a favor and buy this book.

Captivating and Inspiring
I felt like I was on the icy cold journey while reading this book. I was even shivering because it is so detailed. The book inspired me to work harder because I truly have it easy. It also motivated me in my faith. Thank you!

From Eton to Everest.......
Bear has an easy and relaxed style of writing and uses more of a conversational technique in his prose with the added ingredient. He is humble in his abilities and also in his accomplishments. The book is a descriptive account of the full adventure to reach the peak of Everest. The writing is in dispersed with extracts from his own diary entries during the climb. The book provides a very good first hand account of the extreme difficulties and good fortune that are needed to successfully climb Everest.Despite having an Eton education and a Tory MP as a father, Bear seems remarkably down to earth. However, the only disappointing aspect of the book is the constant reminder of the authors religious beliefs. These are tediously repeated and become more and more frequent as the levels of danger increase. They are needless and should be left to his bible classes and not to those who have paid good money to learn of his adventures. All that is left to ask is does Bear really stay in hotels during the filming of Man vs. Wild??Russ

Not exactly literature, but a good account of what goes into the effort of climbing Everest.
Not the best writing (whoever edited it was asleep a lot of the time, as there were grammatical and spelling errors throughout) HOWEVER, I found the details of the experience fascinating, as I always do when it comes to stories about climbing Everest. I will read every book on the subject to continue to convince myself that I NEVER want to do it myself!

Kid who climbed Everest
The author writes in a way that you end up climbing every painful step of the journey to the top of the world. I felt the emotions, the cold, the wind, the struggle for air, the fear, etc at his expense. If you like Mt climbing stories, this one is a must.

Age appropriateness
I bought this book as a gift for my 12 year old brother, because he loves Bear Grylls. I ordered it early and decided to read it first. :) Thankfully I did because I ended up marking several things out of the book that I did not want my brother to read. It was an interesting enough book, especially if you like that kind of stuff, but it had some language in it, as well as a sexual "scene". Just wanted to put this out there in case anyone was thinking of giving this as a gift. I know I would have appreciated the heads up!

Very inspiring
If you love adventure and the outdoors, and you're looking for some inspiration, then this is the book for you. The sacrifices that Bear made to climb Everest were immense, and it leaves you with a sense of awe and respect for the mountain and for nature in general.I don't usually read hours a day, but with this one I was hooked and finished the book in less than a week (which is a big feet for me).

Wow, Bear is an amazing person.
This book is written very well, and gives an amazing account. I've seen umpteen Everest movies, but Bear provides a detailed perspective that is unmatched.

Bear essential
A remarkable story, honestly and engagingly told.He brings expedition life into vivid focus and effortlessly captures the elation and heartache of such a strenuous and demanding climb – a feat made all the more poignant because of his youth and recently mended broken back.I have only seen his work on TV before, but this proves he can write as well as he can present.
