Amazing if you want info without fluff
Awesome. This isnt a DSM-V book, its clear and concise. There are clinical terms and explanations but they are quickly translated into laymens terms. Loaded with information to help you 'get' some of what DID persons do. Plenty of info on how trauma affects the brain, stages of therapy, medications, self-care- and the examples from real life patients was priceless. This book isnt fetishizing or romanticizing the disorder which I appreciate. It's not cartoonish nor does it look for way or people to 'blame'- its am excellent resource for not only DID, but has info on mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety.

Great resource for those living with DID
Anyone who is diagnosed with DID: please consider picking up this book! Reading this book has put so much of my life into context and has greatly improved my ability to be aware of when certain aspects of DID are affecting me. There's not a lot of info out there written so concisely and easy to understand. It's also useful if you get the feeling of being "fake", if that's something you struggle with.

This book has been really helpful getting my head around DID even though its 20 years old
Being newly aware and feeling overwhelmed this book has been really helpful. It is largely from a therapist's perspective (there needs to be so many more who understand this condition), but it's like the therapist is explaining it to you, so it makes it easier to read. The last part had some great and helpful stuff for patients directly. My only problem is that it is 20 years old and focuses more on integration(not completely), which is why I bought the book(denial, etc. it's complicated). It's pretty accurate considering its age, but it would have been nice to have an updated version using newer studies, including things like being a cohesive whole(plurality) which I now believe is probably the best option for most (not All). DID can get very complicated and individual both for the therapist and the person who is multiple. This is a tough journey with not much help from the external world (misinformed therapists) and sensational media like "Split"(good acting, but wrong and hurtful) and "The crowded room"( a rare case of a truly bad person. the same percentage of people with or without DID can be predators). This book gives much caring light to those of us who, as children, were forced into hiding inside and to fend for ourselves to survive and now are searching for wholeness, light, understanding, and acceptance.

Cant tell you how much this helped me!
I have a friend who is DID with approximately 157 alters and this book has helped me COMPLETELY to not only understand what he is going through but how to be a friend with someone who has so many different sides to them. It speaks in yomans terms and deals with information for not only DID people, but therapists and friends or family members of a person with DID. I highly recommend this book. It has helped me to understand not only what he is going through on a daily basis but how to be a friend with so many different people living within 1. Excellent book with great information!!! HIGHLY recommend it for anyone having a friend or family member with DID. I most cetainly did NOT think this book was only helpful for female DIDs. Its a great resource for both MALE and FEMALES I thought this book was SO good, Im getting him a copy!

DID made simple
For those of us who are struggling to make sense of a complicated dissociative disorder, Haddock's book is a gift! She explains the concept of DID in a simple, straightforward manner, allowing you to comprehend the sometimes bewildering and frightening array of symptoms and reactions that affect your daily life. The concept of alters, so intrinsic to the DID diagnosis, is dealt with thoroughly. The book gives hand-on examples of how DID can appear in clinical settings, but more importantly , how it can manifest itself in the daily life of clients. She also gives a clear and concise descriptions and examples of various treatment approaches and phases. Most importantly, the book gives you faith that you need not suffer in silence....you are not going crazy and there is light at the end of the tunnel! A must for those with DDNOS / DID diagnosis.

Great resource
Great resource for newly diagnosed individuals with DID, their families, friends and spouses. This book goes into detail for therapy types and how tiger started, as well as the disorder, for those who had never received talk therapy ( or limited amounts) before. This book was at times triggering, and did warn readers early on that it could be triggering. I recommend reading it slowly and not being afraid to coming back to it to reread.

Very helpful book
I haven't quite finished this yet (I've been avoiding it: I have a dissociative disorder - it's to be expected) but so far it's been really good. Super helpful to anyone with DID (especially someone like me whose newly diagnosed & trying to navigate through it) I would definitely recommend this book to anyone with DID/that has someone in their life with DID - and it would probably be a good read for someone that's just interested (or has C-PTSD!)

Muy valioso para pacientes, terapeutas, familiares y personas interesadas.En especial para familiares, ya que no todos los libros abordan ese tema.

Great read
I really enjoyed the breakdown and ease of read for therapist and patient. As a sufferer it helped me gain insight that perhaps my therapist hadnโt already been considering for me yet and I was ready but most helpful working through it with her. If I was stuck she could get me unstuck.
