I was extremely excited when I heard that the first season of In Living Color was coming on DVD and I was not disappointed! GRIN The comedy sketches are excellent and in my opinion are generally not that dated at all. (There are a few dated skits, like the one with Jesse Jackson as president in 2004; these are the exception to the rule, however.) The quality of the video is excellent and the entire first season is on 3 DVDs. Extra features include commentary by Tommy Davidson, cast member and "Looking Back In Living Color--The First Season." The packaging is excellent with great color photos and exact dates of initial airings.I agree with the people who believe that In Living Color did dare to make fun of groups or tackle subject matter that other shows didn't. Three of my favorite routines in the first season were "Homeboy Shopping Network," "Men on "...," and the hilarious Homey D. Clown character!I would recommend this 3 DVD set for In Living Color fans as well as people who like such shows as Mad TV. It's an extremely funny show that even offers very touching moments such as the little black girl who wants "Black World," a place where she hopes she can be free of racial prejudice. The cast is extremely talented and they worked hard to make a first rate show!

Coming out in 1990, "In Living Color" was a major rarity at the time: a show that held up political correctness, racial issues, and just about anything else for relentless mocking, it was a logical progression from the sketch comedy of "Saturday Night Live" that helped pave the way for increasingly daring shows like "South Park" and "Chappelle's Show." While there were a few kinks to be worked out in the first season, and many of the best recurring bits were still to come (think "Handi-Man"), these first 13 episodes hold up suprisingly well 14 years after their initial release. In fact, I get a lot more of the jokes now than I did when I was 11.With a mostly black cast, the show was a real equal opportunity offender, but it was at its best when it mocked the failings and excesses of black culture, most notably in the consistently hilarious "Homeboy Shopping Network" and "Homey The Clown" sketches. These two recurring skits represented everything "In Living Color" was that other shows of the day weren't: courageous, subversive, and suprisingly insightful. While much shorter, the "Great Moments in Black History" series was another milestone in TV treatment of race issues, documenting the achievements of such unsung black heroes as the first black man on the moon, the inventor of the self-service gas station, and of course Don King. And while I didn't get it when it premiered back in 1990, I now see the "Wrath of Farrakhan" for the five minutes of brilliance that it is. Introducing Louis Farrakhan to crew of the Starship Enterprise, the sketch is a visionary combination of fish-out-of-water comedy, TV satire, and sociopolitical commentary.Of course, the show wasn't all racial parody, as there was plenty of time devoted to plain old sublime silliness. Its satirical edge extended even farther, poking fun at lame music videos, the popular TV shows and movies of the day, and, naturally, Mike Tyson and Michael Jackson. Season one introduced us to the cartoonish bum Anton and his home-improvement show "This Old Box"; the homosexual caricatures of the "Men On" series; and the world's hardest-working Jamaican family, the Hedleys of "Hey Mon." And sprinkled throughout the episodes are some phony commercials that rival anything on "Saturday Night Live," including an especially funny spot for a feminine product called "Vortex" that's just a bit too absorbent.Just as importantly, it was "In Living Color" that introduced the masses to the talents of Jim Carrey (known as James Carrey at the time). Furiously mugging his way through his sketches, Carrey's outrageous physical comedy gave us such unforgettable characters as the anrogynous bodybuilder Vera De Milo, a wildly gesticulating Captain Kirk, and an overly aggressive and insufficiently skilled Karate instructor. His "Fire Marshall Bill" days were still ahead of him, but Carrey made quite an impression here.In sum, this opening season ranks right up there with the initial bows of such justly classic shows as "South Park" and "The Simpsons." Keenan Ivory Wayans had already demonstrated his comedic abilities with the side-splitting movie "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka," and "In Living Color" only continued his winning streak. "In Living Color" was one of those rare shows that managed to balance wit, creativity, and boldness for an approach that was both offensive and intelligent. Now bring on Season 2!

"In Living Color" was undoubtedly the most original, bawdy, hilarious comedy program television has ever seen, and nothing has come close to it before or since. The show bridged the gap between black and white audiences by at once exploiting sterotypes and then proving how ridiculous they could be, without being politically correct or preachy, and never without the aid of top-notch humor. The writing was spectacular, each of the performers were incredibly talented, and the chemistry between them showed.Unlike "Saturday Night Live" or "Mad TV", in which one must sit through many terribly unfunny sketches to wait for the favorites, there was no need to wait for the good stuff on "In Living Color". All of it was in your face, laugh-out-loud, cover-your-mouth comedy! And at last it is on DVD, and reasonably priced to top it off. I can't wait until April 6, 2004!!

This is one of my favorite TV Shows ever. The first time I saw this show is when I was a student in the USA back in 1993 until 1996. I used to record this show every day from a TV channel. When I finished my study in 1996 and when I was packing my things to go back home, iI forgot to put the Tapes in my bag.It was really sad, all that recording for nothing, and since then I tried every possible way to get any episodes without luck. I tried Amazon site all these years until know for any release of In-Living Color, and finally today I could not believe it. I am very glad that they will release the show.I hope that all seasons of In-Living Color will be released very soon.THANKS

It's always good to share a laugh or two with others. This Season definitely does it.

Great laughs from the past. First 3 seasons dvd are moderately priced but the rest are outrageously expensive. Can wait till price goes way down. Not spending upwards of $40-$50 for a few laughs. Not happening here. 🤷🤷🤷😒😒😒🤦🤦

I bought this in i believe 2010 and i remember catching glimpses of this way back in the 90's. I bought this for the laughs from the Wayans to Jim Carrey. If you have a laptop and download a software that allows you to watch any region DVD, then you are set for hours of fun and laughter :)

So nostaligic, there are some hits some misses but overall its almost like a historical document of mainstream african american humour in the late eighties early nighties.
