For info purposes after the fact
After returning from Japan, I realized I had no concept of where I went. I just knew the name of the cities we visited. Friends asked where did you go? My answer, I just let my husband take the lead! LOL I had a few want to go places. He knew how to use the train system and we used it. So, now, I said I needed to fix my problem. This was the purpose of ordering it. It is useful. Has maps, history, historical places to go, places of different interests for people of different ages and likes. Of course there are many influencers out there. I did use some of that. But there are also too many videos and how do you select? Find your interests and search it that way. It will narrow down what videos to search for! Hope this helps!

excellent transit guide!
Comprehensive and well organized guidebook. Purchased several books and this one is a standout as it covers all corners of the city. Good text as well.

I recommend this to anyone plan to visit Tokyo. I bought other travel guides. This is the best. There is a big folded map included too.

A vital resource for navigating Tokyo
I purchased this book before heading to Tokyo for a week-long conference. I knew I wasn't going to be able to get out of the city, but in my limited free time, I wanted to be able to get around the city and see the sights. This book helped me do just that. Tokyo's public transport system is an enormous collection of buses, metros, and trains; this book made navigating it all very simple. This was particularly important as I found few people who spoke more than a few words of English (and I no Japanese). My only critique is that the information about Tokyo's sites and attractions is rather sparse. But if you are willing to complement it with information gathered from other sources, it's a top-notch resource for getting around Tokyo.

This is the greatest! For my first trip to Tokyo
This is the greatest! For my first trip to Tokyo, I studied and studied this book, and everything turned out fine! Along with the Navitime For Japan Travel app on my phone, it was possible to get everywhere I wanted to go rather quickly, easily, and cheaply by subway and train. Only used a taxi a couple of times. The book has a lot about buses too, but I never used the bus. I got the hard print version of the book.It also covers Yokohama really well, which helped me the day I went there.I highly recommend getting the Pasmo card. At the end of my visit,I got a refund of the remaining balance at the service desk at the airport very easily. Also, pick up the free subway map that you see at the stations.

If i could only bring one guide, it would be this
This metro guide was by far the most useful book i brought on my recent trip to Tokyo. Although there is plenty of English signage in Tokyo's metro stations, it can still be very confusing to get around. With this metro guide, it gives you bulletproof guidance on how to get from A to B, guaranteed. Tons of maps and explanations of each different network of rails and busses gives you confidence on getting around. It even has some sightseeing suggestions for the various areas which i found helpful. Don't get me wrong this book will not replace your Frommers/Lonely Planet/Fodor books, but those books wont help you at all with navigating the complex metro system.

Confused/pointless guide largely on Tokyo Subway system/Worthless
Completely worthless "guide".1. The included city map scale print is too tiny to read and no included reference points (which is important in a city that largely doesn't have street names). Scale of the map also helps make the map useless. The free "Tourist Map of Tokyo" from the Japan National Tourism is far superior.2. The book itself is NOT an atlas. It is largely (70%-80%) composed of highly detailed breakdown of individual lines of the tokyo subway system. Which is great BUT it doesn't show how the lines connect with each other/nor does it show what tourist attractions are at each stop/just name in Roman and Kanji. Useless.I returned.NOTE-This review ONLY applies to Getting Around Tokyo. The Getting Around Kyoto (from a different author/same published) is actually EXCELLENT.
