I read the reviews but it’s still harsher than I anticipated and I’m not really sure what age this book is for. The story is simple making me think younger children but the dinosaur tries to eat the kid, his parents, and his dog. I had to explain what was going on to my 3.5 year old over and over and why it was ok. I Ike the illustrations but my son kept asking why the dinosaur had an angry mean face when he was cleaning up the mess he made. We have owl babies by the same author and that is also a little harsh-they think their mom got eaten by a fox-so I should have realized similar sort of harsh style ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Provides an example of a small child being brave in the face of something big and scary. *by T***E on Reviewed in the United States on December 5, 2014* Follow along as a little boy named Hal stands up to a super hungry dinosaur who wants to eat Hal and his family. This book begs for an expressive parent reader, especially on the double-page spread of six illustration vignettes depicting the chase and lots of “Grrrrrrrr”-ing by the dinosaur.After Hal and his dog wrangle the dinosaur lasso-style with a garden hose and get him to surrender, precocious Hal says, “Apologize to us and fix our backyard and promise not to eat people or dogs ever again!” The book then provides a shining example of an apology and how to make amends: We see the dinosaur rebuilding the fence, placing lawn chairs back in place, and hanging the laundry back on the line.Next, the book provides another shining example of how to act. Finished with his tantrum, the dinosaur uses his “tiny-little-dinosaur voice” to say, “Oh dear, I’m still hungry.” I like to point out to my children how the dinosaur gets what he wants when he asks with his nice voice: Hal’s mom cooks up a dinosaur dinner (I forgive the gender stereotyping – this book is too cute). Cue the humorous illustrations of the dinosaur slurping down his meal.Then in what might not be a shining example of how to act, but will surely elicit laughter ….every. single. time…. the dinosaur releases a super big burp. This piece of bodily function humor makes this book a sure hit in our home. I’ll take it because by reading this book my children are internalizing the metaphor of a small child being brave in the face of something big and scary. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ but boys seem to LOVE it! At the section where the "Super Hungry Dinosaur" eats his supper (noisily, with lots of animation) and then subsequently lets out a loud "burrrrrp!" my boys roll around holding their stomachs they're laughing so hard. Honestly, such humor just makes me roll my eyes, but boys seem to LOVE it! Okay, fine, so does my 7-year old princess-y GIRL!!!
