Well written thoroughly enjoyable first person engagement with the folks in the book. Original photography from inside perspective. Three D special glasses work well. Takes a fun minute or two to get the hang of seeing photos as intended.

Life of Brian...And Freddie, Roger, John, and Adam!
I purchased this as a birthday present for a family member. In this latest edition of Queen in 3-D, musician and astrophysicist, Dr. Brian May shares his love of stereoscopy, in addition to the latest version of his patented 3-D "Owl" viewer, colored yellow to complement the famous yellow military jacket Freddie Mercury wore during what would be his final concert tour with Queen--the "Magic" tour, ongoing 35 years ago at this time. Admittedly, my family and I had trouble getting a section of the owl to snap in place. But the book is just fine without it. The owl comes in its own thin encasement, along with instructions for assembly. The book takes us through Dr. May's early years, and his development of his love for stereoscopy, as well as various photography techniques--things that would naturally be of interest to an astrophysicist's scientific mind, but written quite generously in laymen's terms. May relates stories of his band's early days, and in mostly double images, he reviews the people and artifacts that constituted his extraordinary life. We learn about Queen's travels, the often-tempestuous process of creating their now-legendary albums, the supporting players in their lives, including roadies and interpreters. We see them at play, as well as on tour, and we learn about May's family life. May lends his personal observations about the people and politics that have had their bearing on his life, and of the world around which he has traveled for five decades. Page 126 features a now ominous and sobering double image of the three AIDS casualties-to-be., including Freddie's one-time-lover-turned-personal-chef, Joe Fanelli, Queen management team member Paul Prenter--villified in the film, Bohemian Rhapsody, and of course, Freddie himself, all of whom would be gone within a period of eight months of each other. May pays tribute to his beloved Japan, one of Queen's strongest fan bases since their inaugural tour there in 1975, and shares scenes of the iconic music videos which were among those that dominated MTV--whose birth Queen helped midwife via their promotional videos in the '70s. But strangely, he has little to say about Live Aid--perhaps the band's greatest professional triumph, until near the end. Freddie Mercury's final tour with Queen is poignantly recounted. May then skips ahead to the promotion of the Queen stage musical, We Will Rock You, and the tour with Paul Rodgers. He mentions precious little about the undoubtedly painful memory of Mercury's final years, perhaps feeling that there is no need for it, although he does reveal that Mercury was a partial amputee, having lost a good bit of one foot-by the time of his death. But he delights in discussing how Queen's current frontman, Adam Lambert gives him as well as drummer Roger Taylor, a renewed sense of purpose(Bassist John Deacon, overwrought with grief at Mercury's loss, retired in 1997). In the finale of this 2017 edition of this often-renewed publication, we view the beginning of the filming of the 2018 megahit movie, Bohemian Rhapsody, which would renew interest in Queen's story. With or without use of the owl this is a highly informative and interesting read. Encased within a box featuring the legendary Freddie Mercury in his late 1970s biker ensemble, the author's featured(albeit rather frustrating) invention as well as his heartfelt reminiscence is a truly worthwhile purchase for any fans of Queen.

Supervised by Queen's own guitarist.
Brian May, lead guitarist for QUEEN is highly involved in 3D. This book is a great collection of the band in 3D photos and a bonus of 3D photos from the set of the film Bohemian Rhapsody.

Exceeding expectations in the best possible way
First off - I am a Queen enthusiast and I do like photography, but I'm not knowledgeable about it at all. So, I'm probably an example for the average audience. That being said, I so thoroughly enjoyed this book I wished it had more pages. Reading about Queen and the band's history in Brian May's own words was very rewarding. He's keeping it real, and the writing flows exactly like an interview of his would. Going off on a few tangents sometimes like a man with his million interests will do, but never so as to take the attention away from the subject of the book, namely the band.I can also confirm that most of the photos in there I've really never seen before, which is a huge plus. Live shots, but also more intimate behind the scenes stuff and impressions of life on the road - and the crew are featured as well, which is lovely and a well-deserved sign of respect for all the work they did, I think.Lastly, the stereoscopy business. Like I said, I don't know much about photography, certainly not in the technical sense. But the 3D images had me completely hooked! I won't attempt to judge which is better, 3D or 2D, but you will get a completely new experience with the stereos in this book. Be prepared to be hit with a bit of nostalgia though, for times that were and - if you're a little younger like me - amazing things you've missed and can only experience through photos.10/10 would recommend!

Brian May and Queen in 3D
Brian has had an interest in 3D photography for many years. I saw the previous edition at the O2 concert and later borrowed a copy from a friend. The most recent edition has taken the Queen story further and the whole book is a worthwhile adventure into Brian's knowledge of the 3D photographic domain.
