Perfect beginning automatic
Great quality, great weight, easy to adjust strap. Perfect beginner automatic. Classy look.

My favorite watch.
This is the first automatic I've owned, and I'm very happy with it. I picked it up because it most closely resembled my Casio duro, but it has such a more refined look in person. The case is finished well, and slightly more compact than the duro. the crystal is clear. The hands and indices are all proportioned nicely with great lume and brilliant silver bordering, so the legibility on this watch in low light is incredible. The bezel is very nice with a satisfying click, and perfect centering. The bezel grip does leave a bit to be desired, as with cold or dry hands it is a bit tricky. The bracelet is nice. Easy to size and pretty comfortable, but this watch looks so good on so many straps that the bracelet has only seen a couple days wrist time. As far as accuracy and durability... I can fully attest to both. The first week of owning it I fell on ice hard enough the bend the spring bars and pop the bracelet out of one side of the lugs. The watch took a pretty hard knock and slide on rough concrete, hard enough to dent the tip of the crown guard and scratch the bezel. The crystal however suffered absolutely zero damage, and even since the fall the watch hold solid at +5 seconds per day. For the price, it's a fantastic buy if you enjoy the classic diver style.

An excellent starter watch
Fantastic build quality, bilingual day dial. Long power reserve. The stainless steel is pretty good at resisting scratches. Looks very fancy. The lume is excellent but makes it look cheaper in the daylight than it is.

Great watch, but you can’t remove the bezel.
Very nice watch. A bit boring in design, but very very accurate, loosing less than 2 seconds a day! That is better than my Eternamatic! One star short because for some unknown reasaon the bezel cannot be snapped off. This shouldn’t matter to many, but I, and a LOT of others, like to modify my watch to optimize the design. I have not been able to remove the bezel from TWO of these watches, and neither has the service center, or two other watch repair people. A Pro Miodifier said that they changed something lately and the bezel can’t be removed. I DID change the crystal, strap and added an exhibition back, but the coin-edge bezel and lume-ceramic 12-hour index ring I bought from Long Island Watches can’t be installed. VERY disappointing!!! If you mod watches, avoid this one.

Well worth it.
Slightly small on larger wrists but perfect on mine. Feels very solid, very smooth second hand action. Totally worth the price.

Nice watch
This is my first automatic watch and it is a really nice watch. I swapped out the stock glass for a double domed sapphire crystal which makes this watch seem double the price. The bracelet is fine for the price point, looks good but it does have the sound of a cheaper watch when placed on the bathroom sink or wherever. No big deal cause I plan on replacing it with an oyster bracelet anyways. After a week of wear it has actually kept almost perfect time. Really nice watch for the money, even a nice watch for double the money. The lume is nice and bright. I included a picture of the watch with the double domed sapphire I installed the other day.

Well made, accurate, obviously durable, comfortable. I like it!
I won’t try to tout my watch expertise or knowledge. I’ve been searching for a long time to find a well made black on black every day watch that I could depend on for years to come. It needs to have a mechanical/automatic movement. After a few days getting acquainted with this modest piece of high quality workmanship, I know that this is it, including mech/auto movement. Orient products have a flawless reputation for high quality time pieces at affordable prices. If you like it, you can’t go wrong, I like it

It's made in China not Japan
Look at the bottom of your watch face. If it does not say made in Japan, it's not. I own several Orient watchs and they all say made in Japan and the back is recessed out not stamped in ink. Cheap Chinese junk.

This is a great watch. The sunburst effect on the dial is attractive. The hands and indices are very legible. The logo and text on the dial are classy. The red/orange tipped seconds hand catches the eye without being distracting. I have an old Ray 2 and am pretty sure that Orient has changed the Ray 2 over time. They seem to have fixed the stiff bezel issue. The bracelet is much more adjustable and has better pins which sort of click into place. The end-links are a bit different and seem to fit better. The clasp is longer, so it has more micro-adjustment positions, but it is less attractive. The extra micro-adjustment doesn't really help because you can achieve the same effect by adding a link. The new clasp also doesn't hide one of the ends of the bracelet like the old one did. After opening and wearing the watch, I have noticed a couple of things. On the positive side, my watch is very accurate - within a couple of seconds per day. Also, the logo on the crown faces the right way up when it is screwed in. On the negative side, the date is a bit misaligned - it's in the window, but it was enough for me to notice it, and I don't have a very good eye for this sort of thing. The date alignment issue appeared in a video review that I saw online somewhere, but I can't remember where.

It’s said Japanese, but it’s made in china

Let me sum this up quick. This watch is robust because it can take a beating, reliable because it runs about +15 a day and it's versatile because it looks good on alot of aftermarket straps (mainly natos as you can see from the picture I uploaded). I got this for Christmas of 2021 and I haven't taken it off ever since. I am a watch collector and I have several watches but this is my everyday beater now. The quality control makes Seiko look bad (even though it's manufactured by the sister company). It is a well put together, do it all watch and I have a feeling it will last a very long time. See you back in one year when I do a follow up review. If you're thinking of buying it, don't think because you really won't get anything better than this for any less.
