BLESSUMEChurch Priest Alter Amice

Nice fabric, well fitting
I got this because I love wraps like these, not necessarily for religious based purposes. It's beautiful and the wrinkles come out easy as ever. The lace trim really makes it, I think, and it goes with everything.

Helmet of Salvation
This is a beautifully crafted Amice, made of cotton and polyester materials, featuring a simple lace border. It is delicate, so must be hand washed or dry cleaned. The Amice is worn around the shoulders and over the collar to cover the priest’s cassock. Before the priest wraps the Amice, he/she first touches the piece to the top of his/her head, while reciting this prayer, “Place, O Lord, upon my head the helmet of salvation, that I may repel the assaults of the enemy.” The prayer is inspired by a text of St. Paul’s Letter to the Ephesians (Eph 6:17), which speaks about the “helmet of salvation.” This “helmet” is a symbolic shield for the wearer from outside forces during Mass. The prevalent outside forces refers to profane thoughts and distractions, such as the music is wrong; did I remember to lock the rectory; or wondering what’s for lunch/dinner. Hence, the prayer before Mass asks for the grace to overcome the devil’s attempts to distract the priest. This garment is usually worn by more traditional priests in Roman Catholic, Anglican, Episcopal, and other liturgical churches. This Amice is very reasonably priced compared to others in the market. For all these reasons, I highly recommend this Blessume Amice.

A Useful Amice - Straps too long
I have a monastic style alb which requires me to wear an amice with it. It's a beautiful alb and I have several fully cotton and linen amices that I've used variously over the past 20 years I've been a pastor. This amice is fairly priced for what it is - the cloth is nice and looks good with my alb. I'm the only one who sees the laced edging, so it is a neutral thing, but it is well done. Also worthy of note, the rectangle of fabric is slightly smaller (maybe three inches/8cm shorter?) than the rectangle of most of my other amices. It doesn't make any difference in its function for my purposes. If the neck opening on your alb is large, though, this alb may not quite provide full coverage from your neck to the hem on your alb.The only questionable element of this amice is that the straps are extraordinarily long. They are easily 30 inches (80cm) longer on *each* side than the straps on my other amices. I am not a small man, and though I know us clergy have a reputation for being relatively large, I could wrap this additionally around my 48" chest to tie it in the back and STILL have the remnant of the straps hanging well below my waistline. The good thing is that these are easily cut with a pair of scissors, which I plan to do.If you don't mind potentially customizing the amice straps so you're not literally stepping on them when you're putting it on, it's a perfectly serviceable amice and I'm thankful for the opportunity to review it.

Very nice amice for use by clergy of the Catholic, Episcopal, and other Liturgical Churches
The material is very nice, and the size is correct for an amice. The amice is a vestment worn by priests, deacons, and some other clergy and ministers. It is worn over the cassock and under the alb. This amice is quite nice, and the price is very "church budget friendly".

Does what it's asked to do...
Very pleased with this order, the amice that I have considered using for years to keep the collar of my church vestments clean is exactly what I had hoped for. I appreciate that the ties are ample enough to cross my chest as expected and still allow me plenty of "tail" to tie securely. I also appreciate the small gesture of the lace edging to add a bit of beauty to an otherwise undergarment.
