Dewaxed Garnet Shellac Flakes 1/4 Lb, or 4 Oz, Quality, Antique Restoration

I bought it to resurface the top of an 80 year old desk. I was not trying to make it look new. It was a nice color that matches the old finish on this desk well. Like others have said it was not as dark as I expected. The more coats, the darker, but it takes a lot to get very dark. Let it slake in Alcohol for at least 3 hrs. Make sure the alcohol is water free and follow good directions. Go slow and careful. French polishing is fun and satisfying.Where I needed it really dark to repair scratches I added a touch of red iron oxide and burnt umber.

Very pleased. Rich amber color, dissolved readily, very minimal residue when decanted. Never made shellac before but planning to try different colors. I’ll learn to french polish or die trying.

Worked great. Loved the color. You need to use a clean grinder machine (kind of like the coffee bean grinder) to grind it before mixing with alcohol, though. Make sure the grinder is really clean. Otherwise, you will regret using a grinder after you varnishing it.

I ordered standard shipping but it arrived fast - in a couple of days! Was easy to mix with denatured alcohol and let sit overnight then stirred up before applying with rag. I used to match new with old trim in a 50's ranch house. I ended up mixing ~ 2 lb cut and applied about 5 layers to raw pine trim in about an hour!. Came out awesome. Great product.
