She teaches elementary school and I am always looking for tools that she can use to teach science to her students.Close-up images of everyday items are easy to come by in children's or nature magazines, but the Bionic Eye immediately opens up a world to children that they otherwise couldn't see. For people who aren't good with electronics this thing is a no-brainer to set up. You just hook the cables up to your television and aim the device at whatever you want to see enlarged. The camera Takes a little practice to learn how to focus it quickly. The focusing mechanism is entirely manual so you have to rotate the lens in order to get a clear image. When something is really out out of focus it is easy to turn the focusing dial in the wrong direction.Otherwise the eye works quite well. You can use it to get a closer look into the fine textures of just about any household item: skin, hair, coins, dollar bills, wood, magazines, newspaper, carpet, textiles, and more. One of these would be a great addition to any child's classroom, playroom, or homeschool. If you are thinking about buying this, make sure you check around and find the latest version. I am sure the newer models are better.Basically this little thing magnifies a small object under the lens on your TV. It uses one "Yellow" video cable. This versions camera needs a lot of light. It takes a lot of patience to get the focusing correct so you can see the all the cool little details. It was interesting looking at dollar bills, the carpet, and coins, but then you really run out of things to fit under the microscope.We spent about 30 minutes playing with it, thought it was really cool, but then we forgot about this toy until we needed to have a yard sale. The "coolness" factor quickly runs out. Kids under the age of 8 will probably not be able to master the focusing eye and will lose interest. He and I thought this both sounded like a cool learning toy. However, when we used it, it was very hard to get the camera in focus. It required a high level of light, even though the camera comes equipped with a light, and it was tough to adjust the focus while keeping the camera still. He wasn't able to use it on his own, and I had to assist him.
