How often do you have to change the filter & where do you buy a filter?

Had outside dogs, cats, and every other type of animal growing up.  We all drank from the tap, hose, and spring.  My current dog goes outside and drinks from whatever water he might find and so far it’s been 40+ years without a filter.  My outside dogs lived to be 16-18 living on a farm so excuse me if I call B.S. on all of you swearing you need the filter.  Cleaning the bowl between fillings absolutely but that filter is unnecessary on City water.  I have well water and I have spent over $8k dollars to ensure it is clean and safe for me, my family, and my pets.  Not gonna pay for another one.

The bottles are made from PET (polyethylene terephthalate) plastic which is BPA-free. BPA (bisphenol-A) is the building block for polycarbonate plastics which is a completely different type of plastic. The big hubub about BPA plastics is that they leach or contain estrogen-like chemicals that might function as an endocrine disrupter. A recent study in the International Journal of Hygiene and Health found that there was no noticeable estrogen activity in or caused by PET plastics (http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1438463908000540).

Yes, mine says made in China, although the company is in Arlington, TX. I’ll post a pic down in comments. Regardless, we’ve had ours two years with no issues.

Is the plastic BPA free?

Yes, the Petmate Replendish is BPA free. I received mine, the 1/2 gallon size, this morning, and the packaging states that, in addition to being BPA free, the plastic used to make the unit is both recycled, and recyclable.
