Old, slow technology. But seems to work. Acceptable at this $$price
I needed a 1TB SSD. Went shopping at Amazon and stumbled across this unit, which seems to be new on the market, with just a single 5-star review. But that was a “confirmed purchase” review, so could be trusted. Compared to the $169-$299 of competing drives, this unit’s $95 price seemed irresistible, provided that it actually does what it promises to do.Decided to buy it; what’s the risk? At worst I’d send it back for a refund (and give it a seething 1-star review of my own!).=========================The unit is VERY BIG and heavy. The size of a 2.5” HDD in a heavy-duty USB enclosure. See photo comparing it to Samsung and SanDisk SSDs of similar capacities (and TRUE 3.1 performance!). But that could be a plus if it translates to sturdiness and good heat dissipation.I reformatted this SSD in NTFS.Then started my testing by validating every byte of storage with H2TestW, to make sure it actually has all claimed 960GB, and that one can actually read everything that had previously been written. Did this on an old HP desktop with slow USB3.0 port. Took over 2 hours to complete: Writing at a stable 300Mbyte/Sec (USB 3.0 top speed) and verifying at a stable 196Mbyte/Sec. Note that the slower verification speed is justified, because what’s been written had to be read back onto this old machine’s HDD which set the reading speed limit. Throughout this process, the unit warmed up only slightly. Conclusion: It all works and heat dissipation is exceptional. Now to time transfer speeds on USB-C 3.2 Thunderbolt (new 2019 Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga X1). Copied five 50GB files from the Lenovo’s internal SSD onto this unit, then copied the data back to the Lenovo’s SSD. That’s a total of 250GB going each way. This unit did its writing at a steady 320Mbyte/Sec. That’s just a teeny bit faster, on this USB-C 3.2 Thunderbolt, than it did on the old USB 3.0 port. The read-back from this unit to the Lenovo’s internal SSD happened faster at around 430Mbyte/Sec.As can be seen in the attached Speccy screen shot, the storage inside is a Micron M600 SSD over SATA-III. A quality device from yesteryears. Conclusion, the unit’s interface may be USB 3.1 Gen 1, but the actual SSD device is unable to perform at that level. In buying this unit I saved something like $60-$100, but did NOT get the USB 3.1 performance that was promised. Still, I’ll keep it. Would make an inexpensive storage for backups, and still faster than HDD.=========================… and the free 64GB USB 3.0 thumb drive that comes with it?I did the H2TestW verification on it, too. Yes, it is a true 64GB drive. But it’s very ancient SD technology, because the best it managed to do in the Writing phase on the same 3.0 port as before, was around 17Mbyte/Sec! Did the reading at 93MByte/Sec. Took almost as long to test/verify these sluggish 64GB as it took to do the 960GB SSD at 300Mbyte/Sec (on the same port). This works but is totally obsolete. At the price I paid for it ($0.00) it just about breaks even for me.

Great deal!
Plugged it in, formatted to NTFS, and did a full system backup to the new drive. Couldn't be happier with the performance and price!
