A steal for the price, does what it needs to!
Much better than expected. If you needed a new set of test leads, you could trash the meter and use the test leads and still be money ahead. It does require 1 x AAA battery, which is included. As is often true, the best course may be to chuck the provided Chinese battery in favor of a decent one, as I did, but regardless, the ohm meter portion isn't so great since it's only powered at 1.5v as opposed to the more normal 3v to 9v. Don't expect great results testing electrolytic capacitors.Otherwise, acceptable, and the leads are far better than the ones on the old Calectro I was replacing. Either way, I'll still need reading glasses to read the silly thing, and the whole meter was $5 cheaper than the 15v and N batteries my Triplett needed. The available ranges for both AC and DC Voltage (10, 250, 500v) are not great! Really need something greater than 10 and less than 250, perhaps a 25 or 50. Hard to accurately measure 12v, for example.

Very inaccurate.
Not very accurate. The first one I had would not zero out on the ohm scale, and I ordered a replacement, but the replacement was even worse and I ended up keeping the first one and returning the second. Then I tried to use it on my vehicle and its nearly useless for 12 volts since the selection is either 10 or 250 volts; at 250 the needle barely moves, and since I was only looking to confirm voltage, I ended up using it on the 10 scale and pegging the needle; not sure how bad that is for the meter but it was the only practical solution.I love the idea of having a special selection for 1.5 and 9 volt batteries, but I checked a whole package of new 9 volt batteries (8 batteries), and they all measure only 8 volts. So that's pretty bad- I'm sure the meter is wrong and not the batteries. I keep it around for emergencies because its cheap and OK for general continuity checking but can not rely on the readings to be accurate. When measuring continuity, the needle goes way past the end of the scale and can not be adjusted to zero.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00101Q1JM/ref=cm_cr_rev_prod_imgThis meter operates as advertised but its physical size is a pain when trying to use it. It is so light that when someone has to hold the meter or put something to hold it in place when using the leads to measure. This meter is not for the handyman and nor would I recommend it.

works as it should. cheep, but very well built for the price.

love it
Was jazzed to find an analog meter this big. My old one disappeared somewhere. I hate the digital meters because every time I go to use them the battery is dead. I guess they are fine if you do everything right and use them everyday. But sometimes I go a couple weeks between use. Maybe it is just bad timing, but me and digital meters do not get along. I looked long and hard for an analog before I found this one. It is even better that the beat up ancient beast I used for years.

Good for the toolbox
I bought this meter to accompany a toolbox for boat and truck, for basic electrical diagnosis in the field. The d'Arsonval moving-coil meter is a throwback to "analog" days, and has the advantage of quickly revealing small changes in the measurement. Much more information than digital meters, even at their best sampling rate. Minor problems: I needed to adjust the "zero" setting for the meter for its left side, resting position, and I used a new Varta alkaline AA cell instead of the cheap Chinese carbon-zinc that was included (tossed it). The test leads have covers for both ends, but the plastic insulation on the wire is unusually stiff and difficult to array near the circuit being measured. As a field meter, accuracy is less important than being able to confirm a circuit. But this meter seems to be within 1% of known resistance and DC voltage. AC voltage is off by 5%. I have not measured current as of this review.Product recommended.

not as advertised .. wanted the 500ma model (black)
I have several meters that can measure 250ma .. I selected this one bc it is advertised as fused for 500ma .. the picture (black model) clearly shows 500ma .. this is all kinds of wrong... lucky for me I'm not too pressed for time. Now i find a couple of other reviews that complain about getting the black one instead of the yellow one that they wanted .. why they wanted the yellow one they did not say .. myself, yellow would be fine, if it measured up to 500ma.

Old school rules!
Unlike a more expensive digital unit I purchased (and never use), this analog meter is so easy! Seriously folks...sometimes you don't always need the fancy upgrade. Sometimes less truly is more. No fooling with complicated menus or buttons. Turn the dial and wham, you're ready to detect electrons :) This is a fantastic meter that gets the job done. The manual that comes with it also does a very nice job of explaining when / how to use it. I have confidence in this tool. Like the bright color too; easy to spot in a messy workspace. It also came with batteries/
