Excellent Brain Workout!
This book really helps one put it all together. You have to concentrate and you pick up some new vocabulary as you read. The stories are interesting, and I'm glad I bought it.

Best for high-intermediate students
Each chapter (a story) consists of (1) a story with some words, perhaps 7% or so, in bold, (2) a chapter Summary (in German), (3) a chapter Summary (in English), (4) a Vocabulary list (of the words in bold), (5) some multiple choice Questions about the story and (6) Answers to the questions. The vocabulary is indeed intermediate level or higher. My guess (based on the first 20 words in the Chapter 1 vocabulary list of about 150 words) is that more than half of the words in the vocabulary list are not in my book titled 2,001 Most Useful German Words. That’s wonderful if you're at a higher German level but, if you're like me, this book is very difficult because the stories are LONG and contain LOTS of words in bold (about 150 of them are in the roughly 2,000 word chapter 1) which are in the vocabulary list many pages further on, making a word in bold hard to find in the vocabulary list. Also, I did not know many of the words not in bold. The first story was very interesting and well written although it was very difficult for me because this book just does not seem to have enough word repetition within each chapter (remember: “repetition is the mother of learning”). Most words are used once. Also, the title of Chapter 1 (Schlüsselerlebnis) was not in the vocabulary list and was not translated in the English Summary of he story. But, this book should be very useful for high-intermediate or advanced students who know most of the words in the story. It is super challenging for a beginner or low-intermediate person like myself

Their books have helped me tremendously!
I highly recommend these books to not only help you with your vocabulary but to also help you with conversational skills. They have been the most helpful resource for learning German for me. 5 Star all the way!!

Great Way to Learn
Very enjoyable stories. Although it is essential to learn grammar, this book actually shows how sentences are structured and how dialogues flow. I enjoyed these stories and learned much.

German learning
This is a novel way to learn German. My wish though is for an accompanying CD to hear the German enunciated.

Good for vacabulary but many typos, sentences that make little sense, bizarre stories
At this writing, I am B1 level and moving to B2. I purchased this book for additional reading material between classes. The book does a good job of introducing new vocabulary and spoken language. There are lots of idioms and even slang and even non-standard German. This can be helpful if your goal is primarily spoken language.Just don't pay too much attention to the stories or the actual meanings. For example, the very first story contradicts itself in the first paragraph of the first chapter. Specifically:"Jana ist ein Mensch, der an glückliche Zufälle glaubt." A few sentences later it reads, "Sie glaubt an das Schicksal und hält nichts von glücklichen Zufällen." This reinforces the words but is completely contradictory which can be confusing to new readers. In one, it says she does not believe in happy coincidences and a few sentences later it says that she does.As mentioned, the book uses plenty of expressions that do not have a literal translation. This is all appropriate but I feel that when these are used they should be explained. For example, there are expressions such as, "Aber was Jana nicht weiß, macht sie nicht heiß." Literally this translates as, "But what Jana doesn't know doesn't make her hot." Translation tools will often translate this literally and the meaning must me deduced. This is one of the easier examples which can be figured out from context but not all idioms are so easily deduced. There are lots of typos such as misspelled names (Bianca/Binaca), entire conversations between speakers grouped into a single paragraph (makes it difficult to follow), and typographical errors. They're not too frequent but if I, as a non-native speaker, can spot these I imagine there are lots of others that I'm missing. There are also many incorrect capitalizations. This is important because German uses capitalization to differentiate meaning.Lastly, this is an issue with the Kindle Reader itself. In Google Play Books, highliting a word gives options to define or translate. I sorely miss this feature in the web app. Since copying text is also not allowed it means manually typing phrases into Google Translate or other apps. This is not the fault of the book itself, just a weakness in the Kindle Reader. All said, the book is OK but poorly edited.

Je ne recommande pas
Ce livre semblait pertinent, notamment pour les gens qui voulaient monter d'un cran dans leur lecture en allemand.Cependant le livre n'est pas soigné à l'intérieur, on dirait qu'on a prit des histoires et copier sur des feuilles pour lire. Aucune illustration, aucune couleur, aucun effort esthétique, trop d'informations on se sent couler ça ne motive pas à lire.

This book helped me with better word order in the German language.
Enjoyable stories.I'm not 'intermediate' so it was challenging but comfortable for me.I had to look up a few words but that was my fault/ knowledge. The stories did help me improve my German (I can read better than translate and speak).I'd fully recommend this book.I love the tongue in cheek cover picture with the German flag on the moon.Great rocket scientist's in the 1940's.

Not quite as described but still good enough .
It was described on purchase as though each page would be translated on opposite page but instead they are just short stories with lists of new words added and listed at the end . Not quite as expected but thankfully acceptable enough for me and my autistic daughter to keep and learn new vocabulary .

Great book for not so great in German people
good to learn how to write in German and improve reading. Stories themselves are not that interesting but this is ok as the book is not meant to be a true novel.

A very helpful companion to my German classes
I've been taking German classes for a year now, and this book, along with its predecessor have really helped put the knowledge in context. It's one thing to learn words and how to make sentences, but it's a very different matter to find the correct contexts to use them in, and to find good examples that help to improve your reading skills.
