Every kid should have this. I bought to see what it was about. Great story, great illustrations and a great message for kids and adults alike!

Genius at work...
How to get you naughty fibbing brother from laying down those whoppers that are going to get everyone in trouble, and at the same time figure out how to register in his life when you are just a tiny, quiet, little sister. I dare any adult to read this to their kids or even a class full of kids and not laugh out loud every time. Let me add for those not in the know his other masterpieces which are set apart not only in the non-pareil illustrations but the whimsical humor that makes kids laugh and adults get misty:Red Ranger Came Calling...A Christmas story with actual real documentation of the truth of the story.Pete & Pickles A Particular Pig and a runaway circus elephant show us the importance of friendship, imagination and a sense of adventure, but also the importance of limits and consideration. The Last Basselope : One Ferocious Story Berke Breathed's most famous character from Bloom County, Opus, sets out with other "famous" explorers to locate the last Basselope; a ferocious terror-inducing savage beast...A Wish for Wings That Work: an Opus Christmas Story The story of a flightless bird trying to find a way to connect with other of his tribe. This Pulitzer-winning comics creator and author-illustrator (who showed me how much better a hang glider he was than I would ever be im Albuquerque's Sandia Peak does n ot ever disappoint. Visually interesting for all ages, but the message is suited to about age 5
I was looking for books to help reinforce teaching my son (age 2) not to lie. He likes the book, and we continue to read it with some frequency, although it is definitely geared towards about a Kindergarten-age child. I know I'm not the first reviewer to say that about this book. And I'm not saying that that point wasn't made clear. But if others were looking for a book for the same purpose and age, please heed the advice. I'm sure we'll revisit the message of this book in a couple of years, but for a two year old its simply still at least a couple of years ahead of their grasp. Otherwise, I think its probably a good buy for a Kindergartner. I hope that this is helpful.

A little over my 3 year old's head, but he is growing into it
I was a Bloom County fan as a teen in the 80's. I really just lost track of the author and anything he might have done. Bizarre Breathed art and humor - totally as expected. Story is pretty weird and surreal - should have expected. My son really likes the story right from the "full of phooey, all gooey with hooey" line and he is hooked. The fibbing, and the space pigs are just a lie, and the 3-eyed snoot space monster, and the sister's fib... and wow, this is a pretty complicated children's book. But the story is really great, my son loves it, and he will grow into the deeper meaning later. I think it's awesome.

Weirdly Wonderful, like all Breathed books.
I realize that Berkeley Breathed is an odd duck and perhaps an acquired taste. If you've acquired a taste for his comical writing and stunningly bizarre illustrations, Edwurd will not disappoint. I like to pick out a few good quirky reads each year to share aloud in my middle school classroom, and this one never fails to leave a few kids cracking up and a few scratching their heads-- I feel like that's a good mix!

Really funny read!
More of a picture book than the usual Berkeley Breathed cartoon strips. But very funny and great to read to your kids!
