I love how fun and fluffy the “Geek Girl” series is
“Model Misfit” by Holly Smale was everything I wanted and more. I love how fun and fluffy the “Geek Girl” series is. When I want something fun and light that will make me laugh, this is the series that I want to read. I was laughing so hard during parts of this book. I really couldn’t have asked for more as far as the story line went.Harriet. I love how Harriet is still herself through this whole process. She is still a geek. She is learning that she has a love hate relationship with her modeling adventures. Harriet is someone that I just want to protect from others. I feel so bad every time Harriet gets duped. Harriet is trying to get over heartbreak and so she gets a modeling offer to go to Japan and she wants to go but someone has to go with her. Her step-grandmother ends up going with Harriet. This is during a time that Harriet thinks her family is wanting to get rid of her because there is a new baby on the way.Harriet’s grandmother basically lets Harriet run around in the wild. Of course with Harriet being herself, she ends up getting herself into all kinds of trouble. One thing I love about Harriet’s character is the fact that she believes in the good of everyone. Even if that means that she gets hurt. I feel like in today’s society this isn’t something that is well known anymore. If you do find that one person that is trusting, they get made fun of or taken advantage of. I love how sweet and endearing Harriet is. I hope to see her develop more in the future and on top of that I want to see her grow in her modeling career.I am looking forward to diving into the next installation of “Geek Girl.”

I enjoyed this book well enough
The second book in the Geek Girl series follows Harriet Manners, accidental model, to Japan for a modeling adventure over the summer. While the book seems to pick up where we left off from the first book, it's actually months later. This book has new obstacles for Harriet, including a growing family, boy trouble, and rocky friendships. This addition to the series shows how Harriet is able to grow as a person...and a model.I enjoyed this book well enough. Parts of it were easy to guess, but overall was a fun "beach" read for teens and fans of YA books. The characters are well thought-out, and though Harriet is whiny during most of this book, the character is still one you root for. The favorite will always be Wilbur "with a -bur not an -iam" and his ridiculous names for Harriet. Keep him coming, he's just fabulous!

Funny girl Harriet Manners, accidental model and full on geek, is back in this sequel to Geek Girl - recommended!
Accidental model Harriet Manners is feeling unwanted and unloved. Her boyfriend has dumped her, her best friend Nat is spending the holidays in France, and her father and stepmother are expecting the pitter patter of tiny feet any day now and don't seem to want Harriet around. So when Yuka Ito wants to fly Harriet to Japan for a photo campaign Harriet leaps at the chance. She finds herself roommates with two other young models who seem nice enough but she is soon horrified to find that one of them, Poppy, is her ex-Lion Boy/Nick's new girlfriend. Despite this she finds herself falling in love with Japan which is kawaii (cute) and beautiful and like nothing she has ever experienced before. And all she has to do while she is there is ace her modelling shoots and try to avoid Nick. Should be simple but despite her best intentions nothing goes right. She blames herself but is something more sinister going on? And can Harriet fix things before her modelling career is ruined? This is a story about friendships and love and trying to work out how you fit in the world. There are many heartwarming moments and Harriet is a lovable heroine.Recommended.

Model Misfit!
An Open Letter To Model Misfit,I love a funny, fluffy, book to cleanse my pallet every once in awhile. You book, were just what the doctor ordered. You had me doubled over in laughter. Again and again. You're just super cute, and I like your characters, a lot. I thought that you were really similar to the first book in your series, which is why I couldn't give you a higher rating, but that doesn't mean that I didn't like you. We're still friends. Promise.-The White UnicornJust like Geek Girl this book had me doubling over in laughter. Smale sure knows how to write some geniusly awkward characters, and it shines, once again, in Model Misfit. Harriet is back to her old tricks, only this time she's already a model. Or at least she's still trying to be one. I love that even though this book is 6 months in the future from the last pages of Geek Girl, Harriet still hasn't mastered much of anything. She's just the same girl that we all got to meet in book one. It's refreshing, and hilarious.Though I loved the fact that not much has changed for Harriet, it was also something that made me feel a bit like I was reading the first book all over again. Sure, the adventures were different, and Smale added a few new characters into the mix, but I felt like it was a bit of a repeat action. I just wish that Harriet would have grown a tad from book one to book two.The plot was cute, and I was glad that we ended up in such a different location. Japan seems like an interesting place, even though I have no inclination to want to go there myself. It was cool to read about all the photo shoots that Harriet ended up doing, and live through her for a minute.I have to admit that I adored Rin. She was a great addition to Harriet's model world. Plus, it was nice to see Harriet meeting a few girls other than her BFF.The romance was also kind of a repeat of book one. Though Harriet and Nick had a few more issues to hash out this time around. Like a breakup and a makeup and a lot of needless confusion along the way.I know that it might seem like I didn't like this book all that much, but in all actuality, I did. I just wish that there would have been a bit more character development in the 6 months that we didn't see the characters. That being said it was still a nice break from all the other kinds of books that I've been reading, and I can't dislike a book that makes me smile. You can read this and many other reviews on my YA book blog The White Unicorn!
