A very fair purchase
So, I have spent the month since I purchased this printer to test for any lasting issues. The experience so far has me very satisfied.Setup was a bit of a process. The reviews are accurate. It will take around 20 minutes to complete. Some say they spilled ink no matter how careful they were. If you have a steady hand, you'll have no issue pouring ink into this printer. The only ink that escaped the reservoirs was a tiny drop of magenta that landed on my finger. It connects quickly and easily to my WIFI. All of my devices can print to it effortlessly, without the need for extra software. The printer hasn't had a single hiccup or computational error. I have read some reviews where double-sided printing has failed epically. Fortunately this has yet to occur... Hopefully never.Included in the box is a plastic bag with instructions for how to transport this printer. There is a risk of spilling ink during transportation, but so long is you don't flip the thing over or drive like a maniac with this thing in the back of your car, you'll be fine. Here are my complaints:- The ink reservoirs stick out from the side of the printer, as seen in the image provided by Amazon. It might bother some, since it takes up extra space and might not fit where you wish it would.- The little screen this thing comes with is pretty insufficient, especially for the price. It only displays one line at a time, which can be a bit aggravating, but it is not often that you'll have to be adjusting its settings.- As for the out-of-box settings, the printer neither prints double-sided nor from last page to first page by default. This, however, is a problem that is probably unique to my situation. There might be settings that I have yet to find to set defaults according to my liking.- Also true to other reviewers is that it prints rather slowly for what you'd expect to get at such a high price. It gets the job done at a reasonable rate, but if you're used to faster printing speeds, then you'll definitely notice the difference. There are great reviews where people have calculated the exact number of pages per minute for various types of documents versus other printers.Verdict: It is easy to see that Epson did all that they could to minimize the costs of manufacturing this printer to help offset their lost ink profits. The tiny black and white display and cheap plastic hardware are a few examples of the many cut-backs made on such an expensive printer. The subpar quality of the hardware, however, is balanced with the benefits of paying less for a higher quantity of ink at an infrequent rate, which is what attracted me. Epson did a great job creating a product that just barely justifies the price. It is true that for $500 one could get a printer of much, much higher quality, but the price of ink increases dramatically; the whole point of buying this printer is to pay less for ink. The logic in my purchase was that I'd rather pay a large sum up front for the luxury of cheaper installments towards ink purchases.

Worse Printer Yet!!
The company is so dishonest when I reviewed this printer on their site, they did even print it.Complaints:#1 The paper tray is junk and the lack of a side tray makes this is poor machine if you use a lot of different types of papers, envelops, or try it use it to print checks. The registrations is so poor I've had to go to an old, old, HP Photosmart printer to print my checks.#2 Their print speeds are completely ridiculous! Compared to my old hp Officejet Pro X476 dw it moves like a dead turtle. The church bulletin I do for our small church 50 per Sunday use to take me about 4 minutes to print on the Officejet -- on this piece of junk it takes me over an hour. (just for your information don't purchase the Officejet Pro X476 either as my came with a defect that I didn't figure out until the warrantee expired) This is the slowest printer I have ever had (and between my wife and I we have owned 3 laser printers, 2 with the old pin technology, and 7 ink Jet printers.)#3 Their claim of sending enough ink of 2 years and 11,000 black/8000 color is bogus. Based on the usage the first couple of months I would guess I will get about 3,600 Black\colored copies from the ink they sent with the printer. That means the savings wouldn't be a much as they claim. Also their software is telling me I'm out of black ink and almost out in the colored tanks while all the colors are still touching the the fill mark and the black is about 1/4 inch down.#4 The way their do their doubleside printing is to print one side, eject the page almost out, and pull it back in flipping the page and printing the back side. -- this is part of what makes this a terrible slow printer.#5 It is also like trying to decipher hieroglyphs to understand their panel and often times what you are seeing on the screen.#6 I expect long before the old enough to be replaced I will have to do it anyway because of how poorly the paper tray works, and having to slide a weak exit tray (made out of 3 telescoping sections and a flip out final section) in and out every time you change paper. If you forget all your prints will be on the floor. In short I purchased an Epson because I had gotten tired of HP's decline quality of printers. I thought I was moving up, but no so. I have a feeling when all is said and done this will be the most expensive printer I've ever owned and I've had a color laser that cost over $3,000 -- but it ran and ran and ran! Now I don't know where I will purchase my next printer. This one was suppose to become my work horse, but when my old HP Photosmart gives out I don't know what I will do. I purchased it and use it primarily for printing CD's. Any suggestions?
