Great book. Will rock your view of what church should or could be
We read this book as part of our DMM training. It is a great resource and gives several practical assignments to do to begin to live this out. Making disciples isn't complicated, it is just difficult to be obedient. Read it, work it, love what God is going to do in and through you.

A Book on Disciple-Making that Cannot be Ignored
A number of books on discipleship have been published in these last few years but this is one that cannot be neglected. It is both challenging to thinking about discipleship since it deals with the authors call a Disciple-Making Movement (DMM) created and multiplying. It then sees that DMM becoming a “Church-Planting Movement” (CPM) with a result that instead of just planting worship services new disciple-oriented churches are planted that multiply. The book is in two parts. Part one, entitled “The Mind Set of a Disciple-Maker,” explains nine qualities of a person who makes disciples that multiply. Each of the qualities is described in nine chapters. The first chapter starts off with “Disciple-Makers Embrace Lessons Taught by Failure” to the last chapter --“Disciple-Makers Understand the Importance of the Priesthood of the Believer.”In Part two, entitled, “Practices of a Disciple-Maker” the authors explain nine ways true disciple-making works out in concrete situations. Each of these nine chapters need reflection and application if they are to make a difference. This reviewer found the discussion on distinguishing between strategy and tactics (59-63) to be very helpful in order to see true disciple-making becoming effective in all contexts. The questions on page 61 give tactical elements to fill out the strategy. This section is going to make a difference in my own approach to seeing a true disciple-making movement take place. All those concerned about seeing leaders develop in a disciple-making movement will want to take a look at way the two authors view this in “The Long Tail of Leadership” which is a part of chapter 17. Their understanding of “silos” gives a clearer view of establishing churches of disciples rather than just gathering people together for worship. If you are truly interested in seeing disciples made and multiplying, this book is for you.One caveat is their use of the word “doctrine” which could be misunderstood. They obviously mean this word to imply “indoctrination into one way of thinking that is not necessarily biblical teaching. There should be no objection to “doctrine” understood as biblical doctrine since Acts 2:42 states that new disciples are devoted to “the apostles’ doctrine” (in Greek the word didachê can mean “what is taught” or “doctrine.” Let the reader think through this issue.

Been looking for this game-changer for a long time
I was put off by some of the material in the opening chapters relating to pastors in the US. Many of us have realized the need for change here, but getting it done makes turning aircraft carriers in the harbor look easy. BUT, I plowed through and was very glad I did. There is a wealth of information here. You must read it several times to get the good. This is church-planting done God's way. Make disciples FIRST and let God build the churches. One of my first reactions was: Turning people lose with Scripture and no one or nothing to teach them what it means every week will surely produce heresy. Wrong. Teach them to turn to the Bible as their authority and the Spirit will lead them. Really. If you think Sunday School and pew-warming has produced mature, functioning disciples, take a closer look at the average church member. Could he/she reproduce more believers, and, if they did, what would those new believers look like? What kind of church would they reproduce? From the very start make Scripture the authority, not a personality or an organizaton. Teach even pre-converts to be self-feeders who rely on the Bible alone for God's will. Teach people to OBEY the Word rather than accumulate knowledge ABOUT the Word. We need this in America. There are not enough trained people and conventional churches to get the job done. This way of forming disciple-making movements has changed what I see in the Bible. It is there, but I didn't see it clearly because . . . . . you tend to interpret what you read by what you've already experienced. After CDM, you'll never read Acts the same way again. This gets people off their duffs to DO the Word. Naturally, so to speak. In this day of organic everything, this is the real deal. I've been looking for this for 35 years, and it was right under my nose all the time in the New Testament. Just took practitioners like the Watsons to point out what was old to get the job done new. Check out the companion books by Trousdale and Robertson. Read and reread to get the most out of this book.

This is a companion book to the amazing book, "Miraculous Movements"
This is a companion book to the amazing book, "Miraculous Movements", and spells out in detail the methodology used to spur on the amazing movements to God described in that book. I found it incredibly practical for the context I'm in right here in North America, and at times, I was underlining nearly entire pages. My prayer is that I'll be able to put the principles of this book into practice so that I can have a small part to play in reaching people in my city for Jesus. I believe that anyone with a desire to do the same wherever they live would find this book a great help!

Don’t bother reading if you’re not prepared to change what you do!
A very good and challenging book which requires a complete change in the ‘normal’ way we do church, if we are to put it’s content into practice. Very good depth and breadth on leadership and mentoring.
