It will work on any fabric, in my opinion. you would just have to be more gentle on certain types.

Does it work well with Pitbull dog hair?

Yes! I didn't want to believe the hype either, but if effortlessly picks up my long hair & my cat's long hair.

Does it work on cashmere sweaters?

Not good for sweaters. Works better for upholstery and heavy weight fabric
