Way better than budget alternatives.
Put it this way, if your PT uses a certain thing and they tell you they use that for all their patients, then you know you should be getting it yourself. My PT uses this particular brand over other brands because she said they're way more effective at "hitting the right spots" when it comes to muscle knots. I have problems with my hamstrings, calves, and quads because of a knee condition called chondromacia patella (the joint in your knee doesn't like to 'stay in place'). I suspect part of what caused it is because of the muscles around it being so tight. This helps to get to those knots. I got "The Long One", which allows me to use it on hard-to-reach areas like my neck, lower back, etc. This size may be too big if you're petite to medium sized - I'm a big guy so this was perfect for me. I suggest getting two sizes - one for when you're reaching those hard-to-get-to groups and another for easy places like your hamstrings and quads. The whole thing feels pretty high quality. Handles are hard, hard plastic (Think PVC but thicker), foam is firm and hard yet soft enough to not cause you agony. The flat aspect of the foam means you'll get an even massage no matter what part of the roller you use.The roller feels very high quality - it's made in the US so you really can't go wrong with it. This alongside my PT "maintenance" exercises and a stretch strap has helped to keep my pain at bay. Don't cheap out on these - get the best. You deserve it.

A little pressure goes a looooooooong way.
I have no idea what's wrong with me, but it seems the closer I get to 30, the more my body aches. It could be my desk job, and whatever it is, it sucks.I'm always trying random things to try to help my muscles, or work them out naturally somehow, so when I saw this with the crazy good reviews I figured I'd check it out. I originally started looking at a different stick (the name fails me currently, as it's been a while). At that time, I was searching Amazon for reviews, and the reviews on that one said the Tiger Tail was the way to go, so why not test it out?I was excited when it arrived, because I was ready to roll myself out, but quickly realized even doing an against-the-wall roll with it (against your back) wasn't really going to work for me personally.I rolled out my thighs, and the back of my calves. I was able to work out my upper arms for the most part, as well as kind of getting into my shoulders and of course my neck without issue. I can get my lower back, but it's a bit painful because I can't figure out the best way to grip it and apply the correct pressure from behind me.At that point, I decided it would be a girls night trial. We always have a couple people around and they're always into whatever new toy I have. Rolling everyone out (lay down on a waist-height bed or couch of some sort, and let someone roll you from head to toe basically), everyone enjoyed it. It does take a bit to find the right pressure to apply per person. I noticed that for my sore spots (small of the back, right knee, and the neck) it's rough to go over. It's that painful relief deal. I have to go super soft in those spots, and even on other spots, light pressure is pretty beneficial with the stick somehow. Most of the girls had no problem and enjoyed the mini massages. I did have one that felt even the lightest rolling was a little too rough for her. I think this is a build up tool, the more you do it, the better your body responds. The bar consists of two pieces, you have the handles, and then the center part (what you roll on yourself) spins. I think this helps mimick a rolling pin, instead of just taking a standard stick or pvc pipe and trying to use it on your own. This allows a smoother roll out than something that doesn't move.It is some kind of 'foam' as the stick, but it's a very very dense/stiff foam so it's a painful 'feels good' thing. I think if you have someone that you can stick with doing this daily, you'd probably see some improvement. I don't really have an every day buddy yet. If that happens, I'll definitely update here.

Comfortable and effective.
Works very well. More comfortable than the plastic ones. It seems little pricey, but worth it. It is what my PT uses.
