Good book, easy to understand
Really good book, easy to follow along and everything is explained really well. This book is especially good if you want to learn how to read music or learn the specific notes on your guitar. The songs are a little boring and cliche, but It gets the job done

Great for beginners.
Easy-to-understand book. If you're new to music, however, I'd take a couple of lessons to get yourself started. The book takes it from there.

A great beginner text
I use this book for all my adolescent and adult beginners of guitar. It's a great text because it's not heavily edited and I can write in 2nd-7th positions in pencil as the student progresses up the fingerboard. God bless BIll Leavitt -- he was a great guy and as important to guitar as Mel Bay.

Great Teaching tool
This is an excellent beginner guitar book. William Leavitt provides a very methodical method of teaching guitar that has a different appoach than the older style guitar methods. Note and chord recognition effectively aid the student in beginning phases of sight reading. The duets and arrangements are great for multiple students and useful for sight reading with advanced students who do not read well. The chord bonus in the back of the book is a good source of chord blocks for a basic beginner without overwhelming them with hundreds of unnecessary voicings. Over all this is a fantastic value.

Great for a brand-new adult student
My guitar instructor knew the author and spoke highly of him. Having worked through the first half of the book, I can see why. It's a challenging and rewarding introduction to playing. If you practice it frequently between lessons, you will probably advance quickly. Most importantly, I find that this book has quickly built my confidence from zero to "wow, I think I can really do this!"Note that much of it was neatly handwritten. I had no trouble reading it though.Highly recommended for any brand-new student, especially with an instructor.

I've used this book for teaching beginners how to read ...
I've used this book for teaching beginners how to read music on guitar for decades -- learn to read in first position by doing the entire book, then do it all over again in 2nd an 5th position (in half the time), 7th position even faster, and you'll know how to read using most of the fingerboard. If you can sing the simple tunes, and audiate them, you can learn to read up to 12th position :-)

ECCELLENTE
