Perfect for dark hair
It turned my hair blue black which is exactly what I wanted. It had a blue sheen in the sunlight. I rinsed my hair in the kitchen sink because the staining is real. Not sure how long it’ll last but I’m impressed hair isn’t green.

Easy for DIY Color - Non Toxic - Semipermanent Color Holds Well
I've been using this ManicPanic since since 2009 - fun, easy, & my hair loves it. I have dark brown - going grey -curly hair and I don't bleach/lift my natural colors for this direct dye product. My results show in the image: the grey picks up lots of color & the brown darkens a bit with a blue overtone. If you're looking for a more even and deeper saturation of color on dark hair you'll have to lift it, and Manic Panic has a product for that. Using the right hair coloring accessories is vitally important: disposable ear covers, disposable head cover, coloring brush, gloves (suggest double gloving), petroleum jelly for hairline, special product for removing dye from skin, a color safe surface (it will permanently stain a lot of surfaces, so protect your sink & countertop), a hair dye cape (I use a large black plastic bag with holes cut for arms & head - funky but great value), a heat cap (the collapsable kind the use a hair dryer works well - application of heat stops color from bleeding onto fabrics, etc, once dry so I consider this essential), and sulfate free shampoo & conditioner. Sally Beauty carries a line called "ion" specially formulated for colored hair & it's excellent. Limit shampooing for longer color; cultivate 3rd & 4th day hair & when washing/rinsing use only cool water. I have read that subsequent applications of heated styling tools will change the tone and shorten the life of the color; the tradeoff is worth it for me. I avoid the high cost of salon coloring, the range of toxic chemicals that are in most permanent colors (for my as well as the planet), and deliberately shift my blue tone among the range of blue that Manic Panic provides. The image is of Shocking Blue. IF YOU GET THIS ON FABRICS - CLOTHES, SHOWER CURTAIN, TOWEL, etc - IT WILL NOT COME OUT! I have a black bath towel as part of my dye tool kit. Do not hop into the shower for the rinse out or your body will be streaked with blue! A stainless steel sink is perfect; leaning into a fiberglass tub/shower to rinse will result in a lot of tub clean up & the color might not come off that surface at all. You should read all of the directions to determine the best place for you to use this product.

Pretty great!
It bleeds color a bit, but this is too be expected. Smells good, good coverage.

Results depend on you
I've use this product a few times over the years and usually the result you get depends on what you do. Bleaching your hair first usually brings the color out better but it also has a lot to do with how long you leave the color in. If you want the color to be more vibrant and last a good while, you have to coat your hair very well and leave the color in for anywhere from 3 to 5 hours. (Leave a cap on your head so the color doesn't dry out from sitting on your head too long) It won't damage your hair because it doesn't have the same chemicals like box permanent hair color but you have to have time to leave it on your head for so long. The results are great but you have to do it right. The only other downside is that the color does bleed out at first (especially if you sweat). After you color it and wash your hair, give it a good two or three days to sit in your hair and then wash it again to get the extra dye out. Also, scrub that shampoo into your scalp really good. It's a long process but it pays off in the end.

One of the only colors my untreated hair will take whatsoever.
My hair needs a little break from lightening but usually colors do not take to my natural hair. which is a real pain to try to maintain. Tried this over 3my already lightened part with the roots growing out and I think it looks great. The hair that hadn't been lightened is a dull denim color, but I like it. I've done 2 clarifying washes and I'm stunned it didn't dull it out as much as expected. And where it had been lightened it is still blazing blue. As with all semi-dyes I know it wont last bright forever, but if you already know that's part of the cycle of hair this is one of the stand-outs for longevity.

It's definitely blue but doesn't last
I'm trying to add pop to my boring hair that's turning grey/silver more and more. I tried to dye it purple using another brands purple but it was more red than anything. So thinking blue + red = purple I bought this color. BLUE + Red = blue? I have zero purple but this beautiful blue is pretty nice looking in my hair but Every time I wash my hair I hate it more. Plus even after taking precautions everything is still Turing blue. My hands are blue after washing my hair and my tub bottom is alwYz going to be blue now. I woke up today and had a blue stain on my chest from my hair! I won't use it again.

TONES BROWN ORANGE BRASSY HAIR
Are you a brassy brunette like me??Did you dye your hair with a box dye and it eventually just turned an orange brown? Are you too dark/brown to use violet based toners? Then look no further!!!I bought this because I was tired of looking at my orange ends contrast with my dark roots. I’d used the JOICO titanium semi permanent before and that one is even better and toning brass ones because it’s a silvery blueish color. But I haven’t been able to buy it for over a year, so I tried the Shocking Blue and it works !! It definitely leaves it blueish but if your hair is my color—a 5-6ish brassy brown, then I recommend using it to tone it down.It came off a bit too blue for my liking, but I’ll do the rest of my head with it diluted in conditioner.See attached photos: I used it on dry hair, straight out of the container, left it for 30 min inside a ziploc bag (it was just a strand).
