This unit is easy to deploy and easy to pack up. It has plenty of suction and fittings for car and hard-to-get-at places around the house. It is light enough to hang from a stabilized ladder and rugged enough for garage clean-ups. Only limitation compared to larger shop vac type vaccum is diameter of hose. Hence, the above applications.

I have a number of parrots as pets, and, if you have parrots, I'm sure you know a regular vacuum cleaner will not pick up the food they throw. We have used an older Craftsman vacuum for years to clean up in the parrot room, but it finally pooped out.In a way, I am glad we had to buy a new vacuum since this one is so much better. What i love about this vacuum is: 1) It is much lighter than the old vacuum. 2) It has a tool caddy which the old vacuum did not. All of the tools fit in the caddy so you don't have to search for them when you need them. 3) The hose actually hooks into the vacuum. The hose on the old vacuum was held in by suction that didn't always work. As the vacuum filled, the hose came out of the vacuum. 4) The cord is longer on this vacuum (20 foot) so we don't have to change outlets to reach areas of the room like we had to do with the old vacuum. 5) The suction on this vacuum is so much better ( 5 peak horsepower) than our old vacuum. 6) With all of the above mentioned benefits, this vacuum takes less space to store than our old vacuum. 7) This vacuum comes with more accessories than our old vacuum did - 1-1/4-inch x 7-foot Lock Hose, Car Nozzle, Crevice Tool, Combo Brush/Utility Nozzle, 2 Extension Wands, Accessory Caddy. 8) Has a capacity of 4 gallons which means having to empty it less often. 9) Replacement filters are readily available and easy to change.Whatever vacuum you choose, it is important to know the HP of the motor. This tells you the amount of suction it will have. You also need to consider the capacity of the vacuum. This determined how often you need to empty the vacuum. Cord length could also be a consideration depending on the area you plan to vacuum.Considering our application of having to vacuum a parrot area, this vacuum has worked perfectly for our purposes. If it fails in the future, I am sure I would buy it again. Hopefully, it works for as long as our previous vacuum did. Lives up to expectations for my house restoration project of 10 years and running. I’m restoring old trim, doors, windows with miles of scraping and sanding. My old hand-me-down 6- gallon Craftsman shop vac of at least 30 years is finally making noises I can no longer ameliorate. I have invested in 3 filters including a HEPA and was pleased to see that this uses the same size filter! I set it up a few minutes ago and it has better suction than the old one. I won’t put the wheels on as I use it from on top of a bench or on doors as they rest on horses. It’s more stable this way for me.For now, it’s back in its box. The old one is still plugging along so now I’ll have one for each work area. And these doors are hard on vacs, so I’ll keep beating up the old one for now.I like that the cord is so LONG! Huge bonus. No extension cord to hassle with.This will be a little different to empty because of its oval shape. Maybe. Perhaps that’s just me over-thinking it.

I have the older model of this 4 gallon model, and I love it. But it is getting old, and I wanted another one anyway for the shop. The best thing about these is the suction, and the long cord, and they follow you around the house without tipping like a stand up model might do. Most other small models don't give you 5 hp. They have changed some things, and in my opinion nothing was changed for the better. I read a lot of reviews and some said it was not worth buying. Don't listen to those reviews. It is still a great option for a portable vacuum with some suction power. I hate that I had to install the tool caddy. I didn't realize the wheels mount to the caddy itself. I never used the caddy on my old one, because I wanted to keep the size of the vacuum as small as I could. One reviewer mentioned his wheels don't turn easily. Well, one of mine doesn't spin freely. I think it will wear in and loosen up. My old one has two wheels on the front, I like that better than the one front wheel on this one. But I don't think it is in danger of tipping over because of that. The hose "seems" cheaper, but it may be a different kind of plastic. If you are careful not to bend it and kink it up, it will be fine. I had to replace the hose on the old one about 5 years into owning it. It is also more expensive than the old one. But that applies to every item nowadays. Prices go up and quality goes down. My wife likes the tool caddy, so the new one is staying in the house and the old one is going to the shop. I much prefer it. The on off switch has been worn out for years on it. It will be a pain to fix it, I have a replacement switch gut never installed it. The switch still turns it on and off but is so loose it can easily be turned off by accident while you use it. I will stick a toothpick in it and that will keep it from turning off during use. I should have bought a second vacuum a few years ago, it would have been the same as my old one and at a cheaper price. But I bought this now because who knows if there will be one available, and at what price in the future. I wanted to give it 3 stars instead of 4, but because it is still a good option for this type, I gave it a 4. It deserves an honest 4 from me. The mandatory caddy, the sticky wheel and the higher price keep me from giving it a 5. My old one got 5 stars. I still love it, even with the worn out switch. Covid dictated I buy online. I might have gotten a better price at a Hardware Store during holiday sales, but there is no craftsman dealer anywhere near my town. If you want a low to the floor, 4 gallon vacuum with good suction, these are as good as any other brand that I have encountered. And the 20 foot cord is really handy. The name brand Craftsmen means nothing to me these days. The quality should have gone up as time goes on, but..... Hopefully this one will last as well as the old one has.
