I first bought from Amazon a $26.53 pair of swagright cutters by Hit that are outstanding, I leave them in the shop. I carry these less than 1/2 the price cutters in the woods, they cut just as well. **Q: Will this cut through a small wooden craft dowel? I assume that if it will cut metal it will cut wood?** A: It will cut through a 1/4" dowel but might not be the best tool for that task. Almost all hand tools purchased from brick and mortar stores(even Harbor Freight) come with no-questions-asked lifetime warranties. What happens to this when in breaks? I use it to cut bicycle brake and shifter cable. For this purpose, it works flawlessly. Cuts quick and clean.
