Excellent Novel
I started this book last evening, stayed up half the night, then up early, and finished it this morning. What an intense, scarey, page turner. One you might want to read during the day to avoid nightmares!!!! This is the first time I have read anything by Ms Cusick, but believe me I will be reading the rest of her books as soon as I can get to them. Being an avid reader, I read constantly and am going to start another book by her after I finish this review. Suffice it to say, I'm sure the other novels will be as terrifying as this one. I highly recommend this novel to anyone love mystery/horror books. It is definitely a nail biter!! Happy reading. Don't say I didn't warn you!!

<3 it.
<3 it. It was originally written in the 90's and definitely passed the time I remember when her books were offered in the scholastic magazines and Id save some of my snack money, and fill out the little order form to give to my English teacher then waiting eagery for the delivery day where shed open the box and pass out peoples books that they wanted.

Return to 80's YA Horror
Really twisty. Refreshing to read "old-style" 80's YA horror by an accomplished author

Better than expected
This was a fairly interesting read by a female author. The blurb of this story sounds like I Know What You Did Last Summer but is very different. I liked Belinda, the high school senior leading lady, and didn't mind her two uncaring friends, Hildy and Frank, much but found her female best friend Hildy to be annoying and negative. And I don't understand why Hildy, a seventeen year old, was wearing her hair in braids in 1990.I liked the very dark character of Adam, the boy close to her age that she was tutoring. I don't have much of an opinion of his stepbrother, Noel, other than to say he's the opposite of Adam in personality, outwardly, anyway. They're the same age, eighteen. I liked Noel's cold mother and would have liked to have seen more of her but her time in the novel was very short. There were several possibilities as to who the villain could be but I didn't guess it. I doubt many did. This is one novel that should have been longer than it was. It could have easily been another 100 pages. I'd have liked some backstory on Noel and his mother, and more too on Adam.

My teen years were spent devouring Point horror books and I was ready to reread some oh the classics but I think I started with the wrong book. They characters of this book were so unlikable I became disgusted with them within the first chapter and could not continue. Even the main girl who showed some remorse for her actions within the program turned my stomach for the way she accepted and excused her best friends' actions. I have read some dark characters before but there is a thin line between bad and morally offensive and these teens crossed that line. I gave it three stars cause to be fair to the author I did not finish the book to see if it got any better and I really have no desire to either.

Classic Point Horror!
Belinda, Frank and Hildy went joyriding on the night of April 1st. Frank flickered the headlights on and off for fun, or so they thought. They caused a terrible car accident that night. The other car blew up, so there was no hope of survival. Belinda and her friends left the scene of the crime. Two weeks go by, and Belinda no has a guilty conscience. Her friends tell her to just forget about it and get on with your life. She is hired by Mrs. Thorne to tutor her stepson, eighteen-year-old Adam, who is recovering from a terrible illness or was it an accident. He doesn't want anyone to see his face because of the burns. Adam is still grieving the fact that his father is in the hospital and is not suppose to survive much longer.Belinda has trouble tutoring Adam, as he doesn't want any help. Then, to make matters worse, strange things start happening. She receives a bloody doll's head and a car nearly runs her over. Are these just pranks? Or did someone see Belinda and her friends on April Fools night?Riche Tankersley Cusick wrote several of the books from the Point Horror era and a few Buffy the Vampire Slayer tie-ins. I had my doubts about the book after I finished reading the Prologue. The plot of Belinda and her friends driving carelessly and leaving the scene of the accident is somewhat of a cliché in the YA thriller/horror books. As the story progresses, April Fools became a different story, concentrating on Belinda's tutoring jog and the strange events that surround her. Most of the book takes place two weeks after April 1st, which is kind of misleading. The story would have been more convincing if there was a year difference between the prologue and the rest of the story, instead of two weeks. I still found the book enjoyable and fast to read. You'll quickly turn the pages to find out who is behind the pranks. This is a great book to read around April Fools Day.

Strong premise, failed execution
I know this book was intended for YA readers but I found it too light on the horror. The book moves at a glacial pace, with huge chunks playing out more like a 90's rom com than a horror film. It wouldn't be nearly as bad if the characters were remotely interesting but they're not. The lead is boring. Her "friends" are anything but. I was drawn to the title because the synopsis made it sound like a teen slasher but (SPOILER ALERT)...there is no slashing. None.
