Good set of useful paints from Vallejo
April 2025 A good range of earthtone colors, and orange, to add to my collection of the high quality AV paints. 3 of the 16 bottles in this set were the old 17ml bottles with white tops (Ivory, Medium Grey, Ochre Brown). The rest were the newer branded 18ml bottles with black tops. All 16 paint colors received match the webpage. Both the AZ photo of the bottles and text listing of the colors are correct. FYI I received the old boring green box, not the sexy new box with photos and info, as shown on this Amazon page. Still a great purchase.

Great entry point.
Makes stuff look like wood, makes it look like you know what you are doing. The directions are worth as much as the paint. Good kickstart to building a paint collection.

Vallejo does it again!
Most people know that Vallejo makes some of the best miniature paints available, it's by far my favorite line. I've always had problems with brown recipes for my minis and never could find a combination that made me happy. After trying out their NMM set like this I figured this would be crucial to improving my leather and wood paintjobs. All in all this set is awesome. In the NMM set they have essentially two recipes, in this they have several. They show you how to get different types of wood grain colors in one example (the shield), showing you that you can mix and match or just use one recipe for all your wood. On top of that they show you several leather recipes that are extremely versatile, and although they show you a weathered look you can adapt it to your style - I've made my recent attempts more smooth. The red leather recipe is my favorite and I've been getting a lot of mileage out of it. Much like the NMM set they released the instructions are somewhat vague, although I think they do a much better job in this set. Much like my recommendation in the NMM set I highly suggest getting Vallejo Glaze medium and Thinner Medium, for making glazes, washes and using an airbrush if you have one. They heavily use washing techniques in this set and the others, and just watering it down doesn't have the same quality or consistency. Washing with the Woodgrain color is amazing. This set has definitely helped improve me game with brown...

Great set- love the instructions
I'm new to modelling, but I've quickly grown fond of Vallejo paints. I've tried a few brands, and Vallejo works best for me- their colors are solid, the paint goes on smoothly, it mixes well with other paints and water, and it cleans up easily. I especially like the pamphlets that come with these paint sets- very simple instructions with clear, colorful photos. I've learned quite a bit about getting my model colors to look more realistic. I will definitely be sticking with Vallejo in the future. My only issue with these paints is the squeeze bottles they come in- it can be hard to mix the paints before squeezing them out of the bottle. On the plus side, though, it's very easy to measure and keep track of proportions when customizing colors.

Great Addition To Starter Set
These paints helped round out a start kit I have that is missing some earth tones. Some shades are similar, but you can create good effects with these, and I recommend. The paint itself goes on smooth, and dries quickly. I haven't had any issues with these paints.

Still more superlative paints from the Vallejo Model Color line.
Great set of paints from the Model Color line, as I have come to expect with just about everything available from Vallejo. Earthtone colors ideed are well represented by the paint choices in this set (see list/photos online), which makes a wonderful and useful addition to my ever growing collection of miniature, model and craft paints from Vallejo, Citadel, Army Painter, Folk Art, etc. There was something different this time however -- a minor irritation only -- I discovered a few bottles to be labled incorrectly. For example, a gray and tan pair were wearing each other's labels, as was another pair of bottles as well. Luckily, as the paints are there, it's not a big problem for me. Superlative paints (as have been all the Vallejo paints, washes and Inks I've purchased so far) in useful and realistic colors made this another valuable addition to my expanding paint collection. One other thing worthy of further comment, however -- I have added so many new paints, washes, inks and more from Vallejo to my collection lately that the practically brand new center/front, left/end and right/end paint racks (also Vallejo, some assembly required) I bought to house everything now is inadequate for the job. So, in addition to my purchase awhile back of a 6-level stepped acrylic nail polish storage rack from "Home it," available for $13 here on Amazon (which holds 96 Vallejo sized bottles of paint, as well as Citadel and Folk Art type bottles), I have my eye on a nice acrylic, wall mounted, 6-shelf nail polish storage system (here at Amazon, about $35 US) that will accommodate up to 126 bottles of Vallejo and Army Painter paints, or some smaller number of those, as well as all my Citadel and Folk Art goodies. That, the other nail polish rack, and the three recently assembled Vallejo paint racks definitely should be enough storage for a painter using brushes exclusively (so far, that is). If I do get to the point where my storage needs exceed that available space, you'll read all about it in another review. Stay tuned. :-)
