I bought the first edition of McMurry's Organic Chemistry and loved it. It has become thicker and it has many more pages than that first edition, but of course it covers many more topics. This book has been my personal favorite over the years. Other OC textbooks that I like are Fox and Whitesell's and Bruice's. The one I don't particularly care for is Vollhardt's: too much stuff crammed in the book and a writing style that doesn't make it very easy for students to follow. It's fine as a reference, but in my opinion it's not that great for those who have to study directly from the book. But of course you may disagree with me! At any rate, I think that McMurry's OC is a fantastic book. Period. Review: Amazing textbook - This is such a wonderful and very helpful tool for doing well in organic chemistry as it helped me a lot when I took two semesters of organic chemistry, as well as did the solutions manual for the textbook and do purchase the textbook and solutions manual together as both are a must in order to be successful in organic I and II! There were a few instances within certain chapters of the text that could have been just a bit more specific while providing just a little bit more detail, is my only other feedback and/or comment that I would like to add on and point out.
