Another beautiful, functional design from Pilot!
Something magical about pilot nibs. Amazing how this nib produces such smooth, precise writing experience from what feels like a much larger nib. I really like the slight give and springiness of these nibs. The EF is great if you write small or want to make very fine lines. The retracting mechanism feels very satisfying. Recommend using with smooth, well made papers (i.e. Rhodia, Campus, …) to get maximum experience.

HAPPY
Great pen at a reasonable price. Lightweight to hold, nib writes smoothly and ink flows well. Black is an elegant appearance. Love turning the knob to release nib rather than having to twist the pen body like other pens. There are other vanishing nib pens out there but at a much higher cost. No need to go there with this Pilot available. It's medium nib does the job well but I prefer my fountain pens with a broad nib. Wish they offered one in this model.

Perfectly Engineered
Pen is now discontinued, long live the Fermo. This is a quirky fountain pen, made by the best. Pilot Vanishing Point nibs are my favorite. I've had good fortune of getting great nibs that didn't need tuning. The ink flow is fantastic, and 18k nib has a lot of bounce. The capless mechanism is gratifying, a fidgeter's dream. It has a great snap-back that closes effortlessly. "Dark Green" is a teal leaning mostly to green. In contrast to the Blue, which is also a form of teal leaning to blue. My only issue with the Fermo design is how back heavy the pen feels during long writing sessions.

Great pen! (doesn't come with a converter)
I had a vintage (70s) Vanishing Point and really liked it, but didn't want to wear it excessively by carrying it all the time. I was going to get a newer one, but this one caught my eye. It's slimmer than a VP but about the same as the vintage one, and might compare with a Decimo (I don't have one). The pen has a nice, wet nib and very smooth, especially for a Japanese fine nib. It shipped very quickly and came along with my order that was placed the same day. It came in a standard Japanese-style plastic Pilot case with paperwork, tags, an empty cartridge (not a converter), and a full Pilot cartridge. I already had some Pilot green cartridges on hand and am using that so far; by starting with the OEM's ink, I can be assured the pen is writing as intended by the manufacturer. One thing I like over the VP is that the extension/retraction mechanism is very responsive and quiet. (In meetings you don't want to click a pen all the time, and I felt I needed to do that during non-writing periods to be sure I wasn't drying out the nib.) This pen has good heft without feeling heavy; it just feels like quality. All in all, this was a great purchase and excellent purchase experience. I'm a happy customer.

Might be the best version of pilot VP
I was afraid it was going to be too back heavy etc but I was pleasantly surprised by how great it feels. Very substantial but not too heavy! Great writer, generous springiness in the fine gold nib, with the silver accents of the nib, clip and metallic elements in the pen body complementing the dark green perfectly. Silent deployment of the nib makes it perfect for those quiet rooms. Lives up to the standards set by the Pilot brand. You won’t be disappointed!

Another winner!!!
I Love Pilot capless fountain pens and there was no doubt I wouldn't love this new addition to my collection. The silver is sleek and professional. It feel comfortable in my hand. I write big so most of my fountain pen nibs are medium to stub. I bought this one with a medium nib. It wrote divine right out of the box. Unlike the Pilot Vanishing Point with it's clicker to dispense the nib, the Fermo takes one full turn on the end of the pen for the nib to come out. Smooth writer. Unfortunately mine didn't come with a converter and I was a little turned off by that, but I used the converter on one of my other vanishing points. However, if you prefer to use ink cartridges it comes with an empty ink cartridge which you can fill with your own ink and a metal cartridge cover. I will definitely buy more.

Wonderful pen. Worth the price?
The writing experience of this pen is fantastic. It's smooth, fast, and bouncy. The difference in this nib vs. a similar one in steel really is noticeable! For some the pen may feel a little long. I have average man hands and I think it's fine. I'm a little torn on the color I chose - dark green. The material on the twist nob (plastic or enameled metal, I'm not sure) has a color-match problem in some lights. Black would be safer if this bothers you. Overall I'm really happy with the pen. It's not as easy to close or open one-handed as the "clicky" model (the Vanishing Point), but it's quiet. And that will matter in meetings since I'm a fidgeter. Here are my disappointments. For the price I seriously think they should have thrown in a converter. You can buy a two-pack for $8 so ... really? You can't include one, Pilot? And - not that this matters a lot - but the box it comes in feels (is) cheap. It's clunky plastic. Basically you get a great pen with no extras. Nothing to make you feel good about the purchase. This is where some "lesser" pens really beat Pilot up. Conklin, for instance, or even the Majohn A1 (more on this pen below), provides more extras and a better purchase experience. Let's address the elephant in the chatroom: the Majohn A1. The A1 is a pen "inspired by" (a knock-off of) the Pilot Vanishing Point. I have one. It's good, not great. The nib is definitely clunkier feeling (more feedback, less flex, less reliable) than the Pilot. And the pen feels much heavier in my hand, also a little wider I think, but I don't have it handy to say for sure. It is what it is - a decent, more affordable (about 1/3 to 1/4 the price) alternative. But it's not the same, don't fool yourself. I kind of wish it was, then I wouldn't be thinking about buying another Pilot with the stub point. :)
