Review: Great price for a diverse set of Wireless Headphones! - **UPDATE 12-21-15** Today these headphones finally broke. The left earcuff broke about a month ago, today it broke completely off. These were my favorite headphones :( I never used the folding option, never had dropped them either. Based on their lifespan I will buy another pair. **ORIGINAL REVIEW** So far I have used these with: The Last Of Us Remastered, Tomb Raider Definitive Edition, and some GTA V. What I can say first is: I charged them when I got them: Last Wednesday, September 11, 2014. I've yet to recharge them (As of September 25, 2014). The initial 2 hr charge is still holding However, i've only used them for a few hours. But it's good to know they last this long even on standby mode with an hour here and there of use, Comfort: They are a bit snug, but not overly so. Taking a moment to re-adjust the headset makes them comfortable. They work flawlessly with the ps3 and ps4 via the wireless adapter, movies, music and games all work with them. Now: Audio quality: It should be noted that for the last 20 or so years I've had a "true" surround sound system with 5 actual speakers in my room, until 6.1, and 7.1 surround sound came out, now I've got 7 physical speakers in my room all booming sound. I'm used to TRUE surround sound, not artificial "simulated" surround from two speakers trying to give off the illusion of actual, physical speakers... on this level I think the "Stereo 7.1 (simulated) surround sound" part of the headset fails. To me the surround sound sounds like stereo, left and right. However, the quality is not bad. Bass is fairly decent (especially after using the console's app to customize base, treble and other levels). Sound is crisp and is loud on high notes and comfortable on low notes. From booms to whispers: it's quite well heard. This is something my expensive (well, ok, only about $700.00, but still expensive for me, lol) true surround sound system can't do. It's great for day time and etc. but it's dynamic level isn't friendly for night-time listening where you want to hear whispers as loud as the booms: this is why I got the headset. I've also tried them with my Tablet, it works fantastically. While I can't use the wireless feature, I used it's very nice adapter to plug into my Tablet like a normal headset. As I'm typing this, I'm using it WIRELESSLY on my computer (windows 7). I simply plugged in the sony wireless dongle and Windows installed it perfectly! No cords, wireless 7.1 simulated output! On top of that: The built-in wireless mic also works for my pc! Which will move me onto the last section: Microphone: The built-in mic works great, it seems to pick up my voice even at a whisper, so far it sounds great, you can also adjust how loud you hear the game, and how loud people's voice come in. You can have voice very low, and the game up loud, or vice-versa as well as a balance between the two. I'd say it was worth the $91.90 bucks (that is after tax, free shipping). The huge bonus to me as a PC gamer in addition to console gaming is they worked flawlessly out of the box as a wireless mic and headset for pc! Even my capture cards picked up my "usb recording device" and "USB audio device" for youtube vids, and streaming. Over-all rating: Well worth the price! Last note: Have to keep using them to see when they will die out completely and be need to be charged up again. lol.
Review: I am VERY HAPPY!!!! - Update: 8/18/2014 FOR PC USERS!!!!!!! If you want more sound customizability while using this wirelessly on your PC, I have found a way. RAZER SURROUND!!!! Download the free application from Razer.com and the application not only allows you to customize EQ settings on the fly with the headset, but also gives you virtual surround as well!!!!!! Now you can enjoy the full benefits that you get on consoles, even more in my opinion since Razer surround has more EQ sliders to play with. The only catch is that you have to sign up with Razer so Synapse, their cloud program where the settings are stored, can store our settings and you can use the same settings on other PCs. Update: 3/3/2014 - I tested the mic by doing a recording and playing online on PC. The quality is very good. There is no background noise that I could hear in the recording and my friend reported hearing none while playing online. Keep in mind this is not a studio mic or super high quality mic, but for the job it is intended to do, it does it well. I also figure out that you CAN CUSTOMIZE THE EQ SETTINGS FOR PC, but it HAS TO BE DONE THROUGH THE PS3/PS4 COMPANION APP! You need to physically connect the headset to your PS3/PS4 and upload the sound profiles you want or the custom EQ settings. It will be saved to the "2" switch on the headset. These just keep getting better and better!!!! First of all, I was looking for an all around great experience on my PS3 AND my PC. From the research that I did on this headset and the various reviews here on desertcart and elsewhere I gathered that this headset was in high quality and sounded great on the PS3 and PS4, especially because they have the virtual 7.1 surround sound for the consoles. Also, from what I've gathered, is that on PC, it sounds great but not as great as it can. Well, I did some testing and here are my findings. I compared this headset to the SteelSeries Spectrum 5XB Headset that I also own. Now the steel series had pretty good sound but lacked a little thump to the base, but overall sound quality was top notch with its 40mm drivers. I use an Asus Xonar DG sound card to customize the equalizer settings so I can get the very best sound I possibly can with those headphones. Now for the Sony Golds: Using the provided USB wireless dongle, I plugged it in to PC and setup was very easy, just plug and play. Keep in mind that Sony did not write any proprietary drivers for the wireless dongle so Windows will install the GENERIC MICROSOFT DRIVERS for the wireless USB dongle to function with the headset, hence customizability to the sound with an equalizer is impossible unless you program your own drivers or you can find generic custom drivers on the net. That aside, the sound quality relayed from the dongle is quite good! I played games and listened to music with them and they are very comparable to the steel series headset. I set the switch to the 2 setting, that setting generally gives you more bass and richer sound, granted though that the sound is not all that it could be given that it is running on generic software drivers......luckily, this headset has a built in 3.5mm built in to it. Using the provided 3.5mm cable that is provided I connected the headset to my front panel jack which is connected to my sound card. I adjusted the equalizer settings in order to get the cleanest bass, good distortion-less thumps, and clear highs.........WOW!!!!! This headset truly shines when you have the ability to customize the equalizer settings! The sound quality is higher than the steelseries. The sound is fuller, richer, highs come through great and lows have good weight to them. Music is AMAZING on them!!!! As for gaming while connected to the 3.5mm jack....it sounds amazing as well. I played battlefield 4 and these babies bring you every sound crystal clear. The sound even better when I set the card to 7.1 virtual surround sound, set the game to wartapes and set the sound to surround in-game. As for the PS3 performance......simply fantastic! everything sounds great, rich and clear, the 7.1 emulation is very good as well. I've played for at least 3 hours and they are very comfortable for me. All in all. BUY THESE!!!! You won't get better for the money!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is the average battery life of this headset?**
A: I've owned this headset for 3 or so months now, the battery has been lasting around 4-5 hours of straight listening in surround sound mode with mic active. It works great as a PC headset as well. When I don't use it much more than an hour or two in a single session it lasts for a very long time, I charge it about every 2 days if I'm only gaming for a few hours here and there. It stays charged very well when not in use. Charging only takes about 2 to 3 hours, so when it finally does die: it's a quick recharge and you're back in business. Also remember it comes with a speaker adapter which works great for PS vita, cellphones and tablets.

**Q: Can I use 2 headset while on my playstation3?**
A: If you are using multiple player profiles, yes. When you connect the headset it asks which player logged in is it connected to just like a controller. This is for ps4 only. On PS3 you can have 2 headsets but only one may chat the other is just for audio.

**Q: Can this headset be used by jacking into the (PS4) controller instead of the wireless option?
And if it can work, is there any drop in sound quality via the 3.5mm?**
A: yes you can, but you lose 7.1 surround sound if you are watching a movie or some games with surround. the 3.5mm jack is just stereo. To be frank I can hardly tell if something is 7.1 on headphone, but it does sound a tad difference (I prefer the wireless sound tho). I would use the 3.5 jack only if the headphone runs out of battery. The usb work on the computer too, but isn't as good.

**Q: I don't see any traditional microphone pictured, does this headset support chat or is it output only?**
A: The mic works well for simple games but if you play a shooter or something that requires time critical information its useless. Its a cool feature not have a traditional mic but theres no noise cancelation and I would literally pull the headset off and put up to my mouth in order to be heard sometimes otherwise no one could hear me speak as I sounded muffled and far away.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I am VERY HAPPY!!!!

### ⭐⭐⭐ Great but the band is weak plastic
*by A***K on July 15, 2016*

These provide great sound quality and I think for ease of use they are the best low cost headset for the PS4. However, mine snapped after about two months. There isn't a metal frame inside the plastic band. It's just a hollow plastic shell. The sound quality is probably the best I've experienced from a headset so I used them for more than just video games. However, I never threw them around or did anything you would consider excessive use. At the end of the day I would place them on top of my PS4 and since I wasn't putting them in a sleeve or anything I didn't have to fold them up. But then one day they felt loose so I took them off and the plastic had just snapped. It was really disappointing because I loved this headset. They fit comfortably around my ears and I could use them while wearing my glasses. I could wear them for hours because they don't press your ears into your head and cause soreness. Increasing or decreasing the height of the speakers was easy and they fit extremely well and were much more comfortable than my Beats which give me migraines. Also, for the price they cut out external sound super well. It comes with a USB you have to use in order to use them with your PS4. The only downside of this is that it takes up a slot on your console but it's no big deal. The software provided was easy to use and I appreciated the inclusion of customizing audio mixes by game. If you're concerned that you'll always have to switch settings you don't have to worry. I kept them on the same setting unless I was playing a specific game where I wanted tweaks to hear party chat better. It has a button that allows you to easily switch between two custom sound settings. So if you are playing alone but a friend joins your game it's easy to adjust the audio quickly. Additionally, you can switch between mono and artificial surround sound (which sounds amazing and is incredibly immersive). Also, the volume controls are simple and convenient to use. You can adjust party audio settings to make the game louder or more quiet than the party chat but you can also change the party chat volume independently of the game's audio. It provided an ease of use that was admittedly why I used them so much. If audio was an okay volume but the game was louder than a friend's voice you could simply change the balance without having to stop the game or even look away from the screen. The mic quality was great and it was easy to mute and unmute myself and tell when I was muted. It didn't pick up background noise and people talking in my house didn't get picked up on the mic. Battery updates would appear on screen just like they do with a controller so they never died on me. When Sony updated the party audio quality in a firmware patch it sounded like my friend (who also had a pair and horrible internet) and I were in the same room. For what it's worth, my friend has had the same pair since I bought mine and his are completely fine. By all means this would be a 5 star review if they hadn't absolutely become unusable. After the first time they snapped, I figured Sony wouldn't replace them since the speakers didn't simply die and there was actual physical damage. I taped and rebound the break with gaffing tape and epoxy which I wouldn't have done if I didn't like them. The tape helped set and remove pressure from the frame and the epoxy bound everything back together easily. They had normal wear and tear at this point but none of it affected the usability of the headphones. The covering on the actual speakers was coming off but that's something that seems to happen eventually with any pair of headphones and it didn't make them less comfortable or sound worse. After being repaired with the epoxy they snapped again months later and this time it was both vertical and horizontal around the plastic. The headphones wouldn't stay in place on my head anymore. The metal hinges that fold them became useless because their tiny metal bolt is held by plastic and that plastic broke too. The phones started to fold outwards since there was nothing to provide tension. At this point they wouldn't stay on my head at all. I once again, repaired them and fixed the hinges but after about two weeks one speaker casing came completely off and the headset essentially broke in half. The right speaker casing is hanging on by a wire and the plastic band is beyond repair. There's no way for them to be saved now. All in all, they're amazing and the artificial surround sound is great and the only reason I would consider buying these again instead of a more expensive pair. Last time I checked these were the cheapest wireless headphones with surround sound, albeit virtual, for the PS4. It helps that my friend's didn't break either. But be wary that you might have to do some DIY repairs at some point depending on how determined you are to keep them. Without a doubt they would be 5/5 without the structural issues. The speakers never popped, cut out or rang. The audio was consistently great. I never played a game while wearing these where I thought "Eh I don't really need to have my headphones on." They really put you in the game world. Whether it's weather effects, engines, explosions or music they always felt necessary in order to have the immersion go a step above. They didn't give me migraines from audio intensity or how they fit my head. So I would recommend these but I would only recommend them with caution.
