Fantastic start to a new series.
I loved this. This story is a heartwarming, and a clean book. That's a plus in my book. The fact that this story grabbed me right from the, and wouldn't let go until the last word was read, tells you just how good it was. I love4d the way Heather and Jake re-unite. It might have happened rather quickly in some peoples eyes, but not mine. Besides; they didn't act on those feeling for a while, even if their passion for one another was at a slow burn. I loved the family dynamic's in this story, especially Lucy and the grandpa. Throw in the dogs, and it was perfect for me. Now throw in a few babies next and I'll be all over it! I am a big fan of this author and have read many of her other series, without ever being disappointed.. The same goes for this book, although; I would have loved to see at least a short epilogue at the end. Hence; my 4 star rating instead of giving 5 stars.

Quick, easy read
This was a sweet read. I really liked the hero and heroine, but there really was not much conflict between them. Sure she lived in another town but none of this was even brought up between them. I also felt like the end was rushed. If you want an easy ready with no real conflict then this book will satisfy you.

Finding love in your hometown
Heather is a cardiac surgeon working in a prestigious Boston hospital. Due to concerns about her grandfather’s health, Heather must go home for an extended weekend in a very long time. Jake, a former marine, owns the local hardware store, but he is also an angel to the elderly population fixing their homes for home good meals and desserts. When Heather literally runs into Jake when her shower handle breaks, Heather and Jake take a new look at each other. As she spends more time at home, she sees a need for her own personal life, for Jake, and for treating her neighbors. I received a copy of this book from the author. I have since bought a copy. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. I love this book. This is a wonderful start of a new series. It is a heartwarming and clean book.

New awesome series by a wonderful sweet romance author.
Chris Keniston's new Hart Land series continues her tradition of warm and wonderful romances with a strong dash of family and humor. I fell in love with Heather, the first book in the series, as quickly as I have her other books. This extended family of Grandparents, mothers, cousins, and Lucy who has been the housekeeper for so long that she is family offers multidimensional characters and unique stories with some of the humor coming from Lucy's oh-so-obvious matchmaking and the grandparents' more subtle efforts. While each book standalone, there is an under the table story about the grandparents that I can not wait to see explained. I love that while the stories have a certain pattern due to the matchmaking efforts, they do not fall into a formula beyond the fact that they will end up together and that is no spoiler.Heather is a surgical resident with a highly acclaimed cardiac surgeon who has returned to town for a short visit out of concern for her grandfather. Nothing will get in her way from completing her residency and starting her career. Jake is an old friend who is perfectly content having bought the local hardware store. He has no intentions of leaving what to him is the perfect town.As a fan of Ms. Keniston's Farraday novels, I requested this ARC and was more than pleased with the new series. It is not yet as good as the Farradays, but few romances are. I still loved it. We are talking an 8 star as opposed to a 10-star love.Sweet and Awesome.

Great Start to a new series
Forth book by this author I’ll have read. I prefer romances that deal with character development and plots that are not simply an excuse to have the love birds go for a roll in the hay or the sack as the case may be. Heather of the title is a female cardiac specialist, no minor feat in a surgical field dominated by men. She goes home to the Lake, her grandfather, the general’s home. There she runs into Jake, an all-round handyman and hardware store owner who also happens to be easy on the eyes. A man handy to have around when the shower taps fall apart on you even if he meets you clad only in a towel. They strike sparks. Grandma’s chief complaint is the fact that none of her granddaughters have presented her with grandsons-in-law or great grandchildren. Heather seems about to change that and maybe set a new trend. With all those sisters and cousins I smell a series in the making. The setting is small town where the dowagers play cards and set their caps at matchmaking. Where the locals know everyone in town and are known to return favours with casseroles and pies. Just ask Jake who needs several freezers to store all the goods.Needs a few edits

Cliché short story
No conflict just cheesy fall in love in five days type of romance. Add in the deviation from actual romance to include family and friends and you get smoldering looks and giddy teenage thoughts. I felt no sparks. Too much focus on family, surroundings and career that essentially it was like reading about the Gilmore girls where Rory likes her guy without the actual chemistry. It is an interesting story because it spoke of family, community and unity but felt too pretty and nicely wrapped up in a bow for my taste. Not to mention short. Only 18 chapters!!!

Why?
All in all the book wasn't bad but why is it that in romances when a woman has an important high powered career she ends up giving it up to move to a small town and marry someone who could easily give up their job and move to be with them? in this book Heather is a prestigious cardiothoracic surgeon in a centre of excellence while Jake owns a hardware store. He could seel this and find another job in Boston in his field whereas Heather can't practice the same level of medicine in a local hospital. Why is a woman's career not counted as important?

Poor and boring
Spoilers - Oh this book went on interminably with boring chat between family members. The story line of a possible romance between Heather and Jake was so drawn out that you had one kiss halfway through the book then them pontificating until right at the end, when love was declared - then the epilogue, in which nothing much more than the secondary line about The General's health was dealt with - there was nothing for the heart surgeon Heather to be worried about in the first place. I got this book for free, as I presume it was a free teaser book to the full series which you would have to pay for. I will not be paying for any others in this series.

Fantastic book
I enjoyed Heather as it was not like the usual romance novel I read, there was no falling out because of some miss understanding and finally getting back together. All characters were lovable.Mind you I can’t get round someone who has knitted for years, not being able to knit without losing or increasing stitches but that must be a quirk for the character.I would fully recommend Heather is you want to read a straight forward romantic book, for any age.

Enjoyable romance
Part of a series but easily readable in its own right.Heather is a pretty young woman who happens to be a busy heart surgeon. Hearing her father may be ill she rushes home to see him. Cue the handsome young man, an ex-marine who now runs the local hardware store and seems to spend all his time doing freebies for the locals. Romance blossoms.

A great read
It is a nice story of family, caring and eventually love. A young female surgeon Heather gets a phone call from her grandfather The General as he's called being ex military , coughing while speaking and Heather gets worried he's ill and so she returns to her old home to find out what's wrong. A really good read one of those you don't want to put down.

Heather
A great story. Jake sounds absolutely gorgeous. I am a little concerned about the general. Is he having regular treatment for something? Hopefully Heather will now be there for the family
