Our dog is just 16 lbs. We pressed the lock and the dog pulled once to get out further in our yard while we had her out for a potty break. This is when the mechanism broke. It makes a ratchet sound and continues to pull out. We now have to use our hand to hold the ribbon lead to prevent him from going out the full 16 ft.It does coil back into the housing. Just does not hold the ribbon style lead when in the locked position.I purchased four of these.One for a new Shih Tzu puppy that weighs 3 lb. One for a senior Shih Tzu that weighs 9 lbs (she has started wandering a bit in her old age. So, we decided to use a lead with her again.). One for our 16 lb Shih Tzu who is just over a year old. And the other for our small beagle who weighs about 20 lbs. None of our dogs are pullers per se. The beagle wanted to go down into the dry creek bed and we didn't want to go down the steep incline so put the break on before he made a line for it. The break mechanism on the lead broke as soon as he leaned in to head down the hill to the creek bed. The 16 lb Shih Tzu was just out for a potty break in our yard when she was running her normal circle getting ready to poo. We had the break on at 10 ft and all of a sudden it gave way and she had the entire 16 ft and the leash was making a ratcheting sound as it was still in the locked position.We can press "lock" and release it. However, the leash will not stay coiled within the mechanism. It continues to unravel.I would like to return for a refund so I can purchase something that will work. Purchase date was 1/2/23. Today is 2/6/23.

I just adopted a 9.3 lb, 2 yr old Chiweenie who is VERY energetic. I’ve only been using this leash for 11 days and so far it has worked just fine. I am a senior with a mobility problem, using forearm crutches. This leash fits in my hand perfectly where I can press the lock and release buttons quickly and easily. To the seller and manufacturer…thank you, thank you!

Leash and dog bag broke with first use. Not worth it.Changing my review-company sent new set that have held up so far

I think it was a very good buy for the price and its easy to use and its size and comfort are great

Really good for a teeny dog. I have a corgi and she is strong. After the first use, the nylon by the clasp tore and I couldn't use it anymore. A very small dog would benefit from this such as a small Chihuahua or even a cat for those who do leash their kitty.
