I really love this book ( as much as someone can love a math book) I am pretty math challenged, but this book is making it easy to self learn math. I go it to relearn math to go back to school after 7 years of not learning it was pretty intimidating, but this book as made it simple. highly recommend it.

easy to understand
This is an excellent book for those wishing to improve their math skills even at age 80. Easy to follow and use the appendix. Exactly what I need.

I stayed the heck away from math, this book makes it less intimidating.
So, I'm brushing up on my basic math because I let those skills rot beyond repair. I really was expecting something very intimidating or perhaps very demeaning, but am actually quite pleased that I got something that presented the material in a way that was easy/challenging.The Good:::+The book presents the material in a way that's a refresh rather than a complete "re-teaching" of arithmetic. This was nice. I didn't forget how to do basic math, just needed a refresher and this book gives just that.+The instruction in the book is clear, straight to the point and doesn't leave me scratching my head. This was the nice part. They didn't talk down to you and break the steps down in baby steps that made me feel like doing the work was a chore and they didn't use convoluted instructions that require some googling to figure out.+Math started to make sense. Always was an issue for me, never made sense. When my grade/middle/high school teachers explained it they just expected you to follow along. If you didn't, tough shit, time to move on, take this worksheet and learn it yourself. They break it down in several ways, show you different ways at looking at a problem and drill you and offer extra practice/advice/tips to ensure you understand what you're doing. The Bad:::-I didn't enjoy jumping around to find help. Start a problem (pre-test), need help, turn to page 31 example A. Next problem, page 42 examplem B. That was a bit frustrating. That was only the pre-test though, after that you just go page by page.-Delivery took quite awhile. I really wanted to start on this right away. My biggest complaint, doesn't take away from the book, but still. Please offer Amazon Prime with this! Charge a couple dollars more, but get Prime shipping on this thing.Overall:::If you're rusty, need a refresher or are scared of math, this is the book for you. Seriously, I find myself looking at math in a new light and am very happy that I got this book. If not for the TINY bit of frustration that the pre-test presented with all the page flipping (and some of you might not even NEED to flip around) I would have given this book 5 stars.

Loved it!
This book was recommended to me. The book is aimed at adults wanting to sharpen up basic math skills. I greatly increased my confidence and ability with basic math. When you learn this stuff as a kid, you make mistakes and forget some things along the way. My background is an "F" in Multivariable Calculus at the college level about twenty years ago.

Good basic math review
I had a pretty good wake up call when I failed the math portion of a TABE test. I picked this book up to brush up on my math and it has helped greatly. Excellent book.

A bad start
This book looks decent on the whole, but it gets off to an annoyingly bad start. The way it is structured is that your ability to answer or not answer questions guides you to different sections within the book. The first chapter starts off with a preview quiz, to get you started on your path. Yet the very first question on the quiz has the wrong answer. So when you check your results and think you got it wrong - try it again. The answer given is off by 20. This would be unbelievable in a self teaching guide if I didn't have it right in front of me. I can understand a mistake here and there, but the very first question??!! And, of course, no way to contact the authors to see if they have released accurate answers or let them know. Now the entire book is suspect. There is also some confusion shortly after as the authors draw a clear distinction between a digit as a representation of an idea, then give a question using characters (which are the same, representations of sounds) but ignore the difference between the idea and the glyph. My favorite part so far: "The number three is the idea that describes any collection of three objects." What an incredible waste of ink.I know this sounds harsh, and I am very disappointed in a few things I ran into right up front, but overall it does indeed look to be a good book. Better than the others I looked at, and it seems well organized and well written (if poorly edited). I do suggest that if you get an answer wrong and think maybe you had it right, you should check yourself with a calculator, the book may be wrong. So I do recommend it, but you have to beware the beginning!

A Good Reminder of the Basics
I like the layout of this book; it allows you to decide what you want to work on and skip the rest. I skipped most of the first section, but there are some good reminders in there. Some of the answers may be a little close to the questions, as your eye may 'accidently' catch a glimpse, ( ha ha!).What I found most valuable was breaking numbers down to their prime factors, useful if working with fractions, which I had only recently come across in ' The Joy of Numbers', but the latter book didn't explain as well.
