17 mo. in - AT&T incompatibility, finger print reader failed, mic issues, old security patch level
(Update 7/30/2021)If you are a US AT&T customer DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!!! (details below)Since the last update, the microphone in my wife’s F2 stopped working again and this time I had to do a factory reset to get it working again. It never got any new security updates and is still on March 2020. AT&T users beware that AT&T is upgrading their network to support 5G and shutting down their 3G infrastructure. For some reason they consider this a 3G phone and they are very aggressively deactivating phone lines/numbers where 3G phones are used. They disabled my wife’s line (confirmed by the AT&T rep when I went to my local AT&T store) and I had to quickly buy her a new phone because she lives on her phone. This will be my final update because this phone is now completely useless. At this point I would give it negative stars for all of the issues I have with it and I would not buy another Umidigi product.(Update 11/27/2020)My wife's F2 experienced the issue were the microphone stopped working. To resolve her issue, I used a recommendation from a YouTube video that involved changing a default setting and rebooting the phone (note that this did not fix the issue with my F2. I had to do a factory reset to fix mine). My F2 is still sitting on the shelf as I am completely pleased with my Realme 6 Pro. My Realme 6 Pro has been getting regular Android security update and is now on the October 2020 update. The F2 is still on March 2020.(Update 9/7/2020)I was able to get the microphone working again by doing a factory reset (one of the recommendations from the internet to address the issue). I have switched to the Realme Pro 6 as my primary phone and I noticed that it is on the July 2020 security patch level and the F2 is still on the March 2020 security patch level (Note: I just received the update for the August security patch for the Realme this evening). I would think that since Umidigi loads stock Android on their phones that it would be more up to date on the patches.(Update 9/1/2020)In June the fingerprint reader stopped working. I searched on the internet and found stories of other people experiencing the same issue. I tried a number of things but nothing worked. I considered this an annoyance and just adapted to it. One week ago the microphone stopped working completely. It would not work for calls or recordings (videos or the audio recorder). I searched the internet and found reports of people experiencing the same. I followed some of the troubleshooting steps in some of the posts but nothing worked. I ended up transitioning back to my old F1 which I kept as a backup. Through this experience I have found that none of the phone repair shops near me will fix the phone because they are not familiar with the brand and don't carry the parts. At this point I have drop my rating to one star as the phone is no longer functional. I have purchased a Realme Pro 6 as a replacement and I hope to have better luck with that.(Update 3/30/2020)After making the changes that I referenced in my 2/10 update I have been using my phone since mid-February and I love it. It takes amazing photos. Since I had the opportunity to compare it to the Power 3, I found that the photos from the F2 were better. When taking night shots I found that the F2 would focus quickly whereas the Power 3 would focus, get blurry and the focus again. The battery life is amazing. Though it has the same battery as my previous phone (Umidigi F1), the F2 lasts longer after a full charge. The phone is ultra responsive with no lag at all. Its just as fast as my iPhone Xr (which I have for work). The side mounted fingerprint reader is fast. Also the phone looks great. It does not look like a $250 phone. It also has a USB-C charging port. This is one of the best phones on the market for any price.(Update 2/10/2020)After a lot of testing I discovered that the playback would be jittery if the recorded content resolution was greater than HD (or 1280x720). If the content is at a resolution of 1280x720 or lower the playback is smooth. I purchased a 2nd F2 and determined that it exhibited the same issue (so its not a hardware issue with the first one I bought). I also purchased an Umidigi Power 3 and was able to duplicate the issue on that phone also. There is something up with the way that the Power 3 and F2 handle recorded content whose resolution is greater that 1280x720.(Update 1/28/2020)Installed VLC and configured that as the default video player and that is working fine with no choppy/jittery video. The issue appears to be related to Google Photos.(Original 1/26/2020)I have been using my F2 for few days and I have noticed that the playback of videos will stutter (or be jittery). This does not appear to occur on Youtube videos but on videos I created using the phone (these videos look fine on my PC and on other devices so its not the videos themselves). The video will start off smooth then 5-10 seconds in it will start to get jittery (though the audio is fine). Its almost as though the CPU is having an issue processing the video image. Everything else one the phone appears to be functioning fine. The phone is on the latest update(UMIDIGI_F2_V1.0_20191122_20200116-2132). I opened at support ticket with Umidigi. If they can't resolve I will be returning it. I have an Umidigi F1 and it does not exhibit this issue. I bought the F2 because of the better camera.

Excellent phone, excellent price, true flagship killer.
Superb phone! Fast operation, the cameras are incredible, it feels good in my hand and I am a big guy with big hands. Only wish it had wireless charging. that is the only thing missing from this phone in my opinion. For $249 you'll be hard-pressed to find an equal phone for two or three times that amount. I struggled for two months trying to get this phone through Alibaba Express, and it was 1 problem or other other, shipping delays etc. Was super glad to see this phone finally show up on Amazon prime, ordered it and it was in my hands less than 24 hours later. Truly read amazing phone and technology for the money. Thank you Amazon prime and thank you Umidigi for another fantastic phone!

UMIDIGI F2 has NFC for Google Pay (and also see P.S.'s for microphone issue)
ordered this UMIDIGI F2 here on amazon for two-hundred fifty dollars plus tax. and received it yesterday. got the nice blue one. this is a nice good looking phone. very well made. feels quality made. very impressive phone. handles calls and texts very well. using tmobile on this phone. the camera and the camera software seems to work well for taking good pictures. put my usual apps on this phone and all work as you would expect them all to work as they should. battery seems to hold up well. and the NFC works with Google Pay telling me to verify my visa card. so very happy that can use this phone to pay when going out to eat or to go shopping.the side button with the fingerprint touchid is easy to use. and this phone has a plastic screen protector already installed. the black case is okay, but really wish the case was clear/transparent. otherwise this is a wonderful phone that is very pleasing to use. very satisfying to use this phone.have to say that buying UMIDIGI phones here on amazon is the way to go. this is my third UMIDIGI phone. Umidigi A3 Pro. Umidigi One Max. and now this Umidigi F2. these are quality-made phones.P.S. NEW UPDATE RECEIVED (Release: May 6, 2020):UMIDIGI_F2_V1.0_20200402_20200506-1120P.S.S. June-5-2020: One month later still using my still new UMIDIGI F2 which is working great. The blue on this phone is such a wonderful color. Have to mention that myself personally got tired of the flimsy screen protector on the screen and tore that cheapo plastic film off the screen. that flimsy screen protector does not cover the whole screen and the screen protector's edges attract dust/dirt. And whoever put that screen protector on the phone screen did not notice a dust swiggle that got caught under the screen protector. So off goes the flimsy screen protector. Will instead probably get the nano liquid screen protector to cover the whole screen. ALSO have to mention the built-in NFC on the phone works great with Google Pay when paying for stuff at local brick-and-mortar stores when buying stuff. AND ONE OTHER THING: The CAMERA on this UMIDIGI F2 phone works GREAT and is just as good with GREAT SHARP PICTURES as the camera on my iPhone. Really do not have to keep switching to my iPhone to take good pictures because the camera on this UMIDIGI F2 is just as good. Very happy with my UMIDIGI F2.P.S.S.S. AUGUST 11, 2020: Quick update. Writing this during COVID19 pandemic quarantine social-distancing time. Google Pay with the NFC on my UMIDIGI F2 is doing its job for touchless contactfree payments when going shopping during the coronavirus crazytimes. So my UMIDIGI F2 is my everyday tool for shopping both online and paying at brick and mortar stores. Yea! .... But encountered one gotcha with this phone when finally tried using the dual/double sim card capability using both a tmobile sim and an att sim in my UMIDIGI F2 phone. Yes the dual sim cards work -- BUT frustratingly lost complete microphone capability for everything and anything that required the mic to work. So, calls were one sided with no one able to hear me, similarly for zoom video, sound recording dictation notes, whatsapp calls, google assistant could not hear my verbal commands, etc. BUT when went back to only have one single sim card in the phone, then the microphone worked again. So the DUAL SIM was a FAIL for me. Too bad. At least the phone works for my normal regular situation with using only one single sim card in this phone. Of course, left the tmobile sim in my UMIDIGI F2 because of all the new compatible bands on this phone.P.S.S.S.S. September 2, 2020: Another update. Tried another SIM card to see if verizon would work on my UMIDIGI F2 and it did work! Was able to make a call, send & receive SMS text, and access the internet via verizon. So, verizon works, but it was showing up as SPRINT at the top of the Mobile Network menu although the APN settings in the Access Point Names (APNs) menu all had LTE Verizon apn settings. (Oh, have no idea if an actual SPRINT sim card would work in this phone, but IMHO that may eventually not really matter because Sprint will all become Tmobile sometime soon-ish in the future because of the Tmobile-Sprint merger.) One problem after testing the different sim card: The microphone on the phone somehow stopped working -- just like when my inserting another sim card in the dual sim slot. So, a potential problem with changing sim cards, or inserting a second sim card, is the microphone somehow becoming disabled on the UMIDIGI F2. This microphone problem also occurred when installing other calling apps or video calling apps. Possible fixes to regain the microphone function are to: (1) remove and reinsert the sim card; (2) disable Google Assistant; or (3) install a different phone dialer app and to at least temporarily set that different dialer as the default phone app. The third option of switching the default phone app is what finally worked for me (by installing the Simple Dialer app) to get the microphone function back -- because the idea is to somehow clear the microphone setting. So, my routine now is to test the microphone by using the Sound Recorder app after installing a new app which somehow accesses the mic, and if the mic fails, then switch default phone apps again to clear the microphone issue.P.S.S.S.S.S. September 27, 2020. Another note about the microphone issue: After more of my fiddling around with various calling apps, and then finding the microphone failing again afterwards, what currently works for me to restore the microphone is to remove all or most other calling apps (skype, ooma, meet, zoom, etc) and then having installed another phone dialer app (such as the Simple Dialer app or the recently new Phone By Google beta app) and setting that other phone dialer app as the default phone app and rebooting the phone. To test the microphone: (1) use the Sound Recorder app to record and play back your voice to make sure at least the mic works; and (2) make a phone call to another phone, or call an Echo Test number, to doubly make sure the mic actually works during an actual phone call. Note: using only the Sound Recorder test did not always confirm the mic would also work during a actual phone call, and so you should also test during an actual phone call.

You will be VERY surprised in a great way!!!
This Umidigi F2 is most definitely well worth more than the money you pay for the phone. It his a high end glass and metal build plus the 6gigs of ram and the 128gigs of internal storage (I added an extra 128gigs with a SD card). I took amazing pictures with the macro camera which are the photos I left in my review.I am VERY pleased with my purchase. I really ended with this phone because I was trying to get a 6gig Samsung Galaxy A51, but when I read the reviews I seen that the phone was being falsely advertised, too many people were saying that they received a 4gig version when they were expecting a 6gig. So I decided to do some digging and came across a video on YouTube comparing the Umidigi F2 to the Samsung Galaxy A51 and it is just as good if not better because it has a better battery, better cameras, bigger storage, and the only model is a 6gig ram+128gig storage, and it's cheaper than the A51.

It's a great phone wth on a budget.
I have to say I am really Impressed with the Umidigi F2! I liked that it came with a screen protector and a case, though it's a shame to cover up the colour of the phone. The screen is nice and big which I like. I set it up with ease and the fingerprint reader as well as face recognition work great. The battery life of the phone is great, i can get a full day out of it without having to plug it in. No problems with connecting my smartwatch and wireless earbuds. Calls seem to be fine, I can hear people clearly, though I use speaker most of the time. I liked the cameras, the shots seem clear and colour is good. I especially like the macro lens. Overall, phone is really fast and responsive and has a premium feel to it.

Signal is poor compare with my other phones
Signal is a little weak compare my other phones, I have to switch back to my old phone because it can't receive any signal in some of the areas. However, it's a fast phone and the battery last forever!
