Great for the price
Ok first out of the way, its small and cheap, but you aren't expecting a 500 dollar vise for 30 are you? Next, using it outside on a weather exposed table, your mileage might vary as far as what I've experienced. So far I've cranked down on it pretty hard, beaten on it pretty nicely and its held up as good as one can expect for 30 bucks. I might replace it with a full size vise in the future, but currently for my needs it'll due. The only major issue I've had with it exposed to the elements is surface rust on both any portion that is exposed to the air (for instance I've chipped the paint in a couple places), and on the small flat anvil space. I wouldn't expect much better out of just about any other vice so there is that. I put some rust reclaimer on it every so often and that seems to keep it from going insane. Other than that no breaks, the vice mechanism still works after a month exposed in the rain, and it was cheap enough that I'm not going to mind much if it breaks really, but I've gotten a month out of it, if it last half a year I'll be impressed and have well gotten my money out of it.

Better than expected, a solid light duty vice that's made well.
Yeah...it's not for industrial use. Around the house, general use it's better than average, well made.

Perfect little vise for the money!
Yost LV-4 Home Vise 4-1/2" at this price is awesome for a good light duty swivel vise with one year warranty! And at this price it is obviously not made in the USA and is not a medium nor professional grade vise. If you want a vise able to withstand a lot of pressure with zero movement with a large anvil, then this is not the vise you need. I would recommend looking at The Yost Apprentice series at least. This is clearly for the casual user who just needs a light duty simple vise and probably targeted toward someone who will not use this very often. I've used it for household projects, school projects, building a pinewood derby car, regripping a golf club and gunsmith projects (filing a magazine) for example. Works great for everything I've used it for and grips great, opens pretty wide, swivels when needed and is solid. If you are concerned about the size, before you buy please go get a tape measure and go out to where you'll be installing this and measure; all the dimensions are listed here or on Yost's website. I don't understand reviews that state it was 'smaller than expected'. You should always measure! I liked it for the very reason it is compact and doesn't take up much of my bench space for something I seldom will use. I'll probably only use mine once a month on average and it is perfect for that. If you get a defective unit, Amazon will take it back no issues, plus Yost also has a year warranty. It happens.

Review of YOST LV-4 Bench Vise - How I Fixed the Slop In The Pivot.
Let me begin by saying that I think Yost makes a fine line of vises. Please read my review of the superb Yost RIA-4 bench vise - undoubtedly the Cadillac of small bench vises. Which makes Yost's apparent indifference to the well-documented complaints of slop in the LV-4 swivel pivot so hard to understand. My brand-new Model LV-4 arrived his afternoon, and the slop in the swivel pivot was obvious. As many reviewers have noted, this looseness makes it almost impossible to secure the vise against movement, and also puts unnecessary strain on the single pivot clamp, which users tend to tighten with max force in an effort to hold the vise still. A clear lose-lose that is so simple to fix! I discussed this problem with Yost customer service, and the person I spoke with was quite pleasant and friendly but dismissed the matter as possible tooling wear. Which is nonsense. Fortunately, I had a simple fix. Simple, that is, if you happen to have a scrap piece of thinwall copper or aluminum tubing. Which, by the way, is the deeply satisfying answer to your Significant Other asking you why you keep all that junk, to which you usually answer "Because I might need it some day." Well, that Some Day arrived this afternoon! Please see the two attached photos. I cut a short piece from a length of thinwall aluminum tubing that I knew, Just Knew, I would need someday. The tubing wasn't exactly the right diameter, so I split it lengthwise and slipped it over the pivot bolt that secures the body of the vise to the base. Voila!! no more slop! Now, much as I admire the Yost product line, I cannot justify, in my mind, their refusal to fix this dead-simple problem. I do resent having to fix a brand-new vise to correct an obvious manufacturer's oversight. A simple bushing in copper, brass, or aluminum, would cost Yost a couple of pennies, at most. But they evidently have chosen to ignore the many complaints by loyal users, and instead allow the vise to shift position unexpectedly, possibly compromising the work piece. Even offering it for a dollar as an after-market item would be nice..... Anyway, all's well that ends well....etc. I hope that this review is helpful. It should be possible to find a bushing of the correct diameter (length might be a problem). But I worked with what I had on hand.

What an amazing vise this is.. This vice is in the Top 5 vises in the market today! I wanted a vise for my electronics workbench but all the vises I had seen where either aluminium and low quality or very small for the usage I wanted. Plus they were equipped to be attached on a bench with the help of a screw pad and OMG very expensive to buy too.. In my work I can use it as a holder to solder a connector or to hold an enclosure box for drilling.. Because I've worked with a couple of vises before I had always problem with stabilization of the vise. Therefor I decided to go with a heavy-duty vise like this one. And on this age of cheapness that surrounds us nowadays (where almost everything is plastic or the lowest quality metal and sometimes its even plastic painted like metal), I've never expect to find a heave-duty professional vise especially on this prize! Just $40 bucks. I've got to tell you that not only its amazing, never moves on the bench no matter what work I do on it (I mean its 5 Kg) but also it has an awesome holder that can be used on light and tough work as well. You don't have to tight it strong to hold whatever you're working with. I'm totally satisfied with it and I recommend it to anyone for all kind of jobs.

me gustó esta prensa porque es de buena calidad, es barata y cumple la función. Aparte de la prensa de 4.5 pulgadas también incorpora una mordaza circular para cortar tubos. Sirve muy bien para trabajos de hogar. 100% recomendable!!.

I mounted this vise to my work bench using a set of flange bolts and nuts (you can also just use hex bolts with washers if you can't find flange bolts). When mounted correctly, the vise will perform as it's intended to. This vise is good quality, durable, and strong enough for most household/domestic uses. Good bang for your buck.
