I tend to believe I'm not mechanically apt so when I got the big box and parts I was like, yikes, but it went together perfectly, but I also watched a couple of YouTube videos first and saw how simple it is. There are a lot of extra parts (reflector, hitch bolt, plastic do dads) which is always a little alarming because they don't tell you they're extras. I took it for a road test and inadvertently hit a small pot hole and no problem at all. I also ran it by a local bike shop to get confirmation it was good for a long road trip and they approved and liked it. One recommendation is to measure from from tire to back tire the furthest distance where the front touches the ground to the furthest back where the tire touches the ground. Then set your wheel guard/holders that distance. I didn't actually do this but instead of a lot of lifting and dropping, adjusting and repeat and I think this would have gotten me there much faster.I'm going on a 1500 mile trip so I'll update when it comes off a smashing success. :-)Update 9 months later the long trip was no issue whatsoever and I have been driving with the rack since I installed it. I highly recommend this.

Ordered this rack March 2020. The CONS based on 7 months using this bike hitch.1. The button to hold the swing arm in place will dislodge while driving (see picture). When the button dislodges the swing arm will fall to one side. Your bike will not be secure and the swing arm will make its way into the spokes of your wheel. To stop this, I drilled a hole thru the swing arm and insert a pin to keep the swing arm from dislodging (see second picture). This prevents the swing arm from dislodging. Had to pull the car over several times and pull the swing arm back up. Without the pin you will likely damage/lose your bike.2. The foam on the swing arm that rest on top of the top tube of bike, is flimsy and breaks apart. It scratched my carbon fiber top tube on my new bike. I replaced the cheap foam with denser foam so it would not continue to scratch my bike.3. I have a 1.25" (vs 2") hitch so this may contribute to the rack swaying while driving. I added 2 straps that anchor to the car and hitch to minimize swaying.The Pros:1. Price - its affordable. If you address the cons above then the bike rack is decent for the price. Unfortunately I had to learn the hard way.I ended up purchasing a more secure bike rack. I was tired of looking in my rear view mirror every minute to see if the swing arm is still in place.10-25-2020 Update - happily surprised & satisfied the seller responded to my concerns 7 months after I purchased the hitch rack. I needed something a bit sturdier than my previous rack to carry my ebikes. One is a fat tire, one is a hybrid. It can easily handle both size tires. And it can handle the load well. It is very sturdy. I really like how it can be folded up when not in use, or can fold down to access the trunk. The only thing I don't like as much is the velcro strap. It can't adjust for different size tires as easily. My previous rack had a rubber strap with holes that was easier to attach with the right tightness. But giving 5 stars anyway because they have great customer service. I had a problem with one of my clamp arms and they are sending me a new one.Also some people complain about this, or other racks, rocking back and forth. You need to install a hitch clamp to keep it from rocking. That makes it solid.

After using the rack for ~ 800 miles I noticed that the lock that secures the hitch pin (for anti-theft moreso than structural integrity) had fallen off. I know it was locked properly when I started, so this was clearly puzzling. I contacted KAC's support email, and after a simple & pleasant exchange of info I was promised a complete replacement of the lock. I appreciate the positive approach taken by KAC in this instance.

It is nice to see the company stand by its product. The rack holds our two e-bikes great! But we lost one of the parts and KAC sent us a new one free of charge. It was easy to communicate with KAC thru email and they sent the part to us quick

Very stable, easy to mount, durable. Easily & stably holds a very heavy e-bike. The only gripe is that you need a wrench or socket to tighten the shims to minimize swaying. However "no tool" shimming feature is only available on MUCH more expensive racks, so for the price, it can't be beat

The rack had been great until the anti-wobble mechanism, an aluminum nut was completely stripped by the steel bolt. They would not provide a replacement part and said, "Please note that our bike racks are covered by a warranty that aligns with Amazon's policy, which generally allows returns within 30 days from the date of receipt."

We just put this bike carrier together and it is really nice. Right out of the gate though, the tow hitch reducer sleeve was not in the box. I am not sure if that was mentioned somewhere but I didn't see it until on the instructions it noted "optional." If I overlooked this little detail; my bad...but if not, there should be some mention that the reducer sleeve is not included because that would have been nice to know and I would have secured it before we pulled all the parts out of the box. I finally did secure it today; after calling around to a few places...Northern Tools carried it. We attached the carrier to the SUV and put my husband's beach bike (4" tires) on it with plenty of room and I drove around the community...love this rack! This bike carrier is really easy to put together...pretty quickly and you're can be on your way. Can't wait to take the bikes out for a ride.
