Dani and Christian are a young American couple with a relationship on the brink of falling apart. But after a family tragedy keeps them together, a grieving Dani invites herself to join Christian and his friends on a trip to a once-in-a-lifetime midsummer festival in a remote Swedish village. What begins as a carefree summer holiday in a land of eternal sunlight takes a sinister turn when the insular villagers invite their guests to partake in festivities that render the pastoral paradise increasingly unnerving and viscerally disturbing. From the visionary mind of Ari Aster comes a dread-soaked cinematic fairytale where a world of darkness unfolds in broad daylight.

Wicker Man on steroids
I have to say, this is one of the best movies I have ever seen. For me, the stranger the better - and this one is bizarre! I love movies about alternate cultures that us Americans have no real idea about. Also, this was the first Blu Ray I have ever owned and the quality of it is really top notch. This one, to me, begs for a sequel maybe on a mid-winter event. Highly recommend!

Excellent film
An exceptional film, looks beautiful in its cinematography. The unease is there from the very beginning. It plays fine on my multi-region player.

Drugged-up Hippie Death Cult
First of all, this is a 5-star story that I docked a star because it could have been edited for length. Many scenes, specifically Dani’s nightmare, could have been completely deleted. It added nothing in either narrative or aesthetic. The audience was fully aware of Dani’s feelings/fears at that point. From the first scene, the cinematography was beautiful, both obscuring time and space. It’s almost like Dani traveled into the past instead of Sweden. The premise is a bunch of grad students go to visit/study their Swedish friend’s family during the mid-summer festival. Which sounds nice, but really is some weirdo death cult out in the middle of nowhere. It’s the classic set up for city-folk-visit-the-boonies horror story. Midsommar delivers on many classic horror themes, emotional abuse/neglect, loss, religious/social control, sex, drugs, and gruesome death. It also adds a few like, “Ha, ha, made you eat my pubes,” and “How about the least-sexy group sex scene ever?”It absolutely a must-watch for any horror fan.

Amazing Cut to an Amazing Film
I watched the theatrical version of this film twice before buying the director’s cut (I bought a multi-region player specifically to play this disc). They took the movie I loved and made it even better. The story is much richer with a lot of scenes I thought were important. Not necessary, but important. I honestly thought the theatrical version was too short.

can't play in USA
Was NOT listed when I purchased that it couldn't play in the USA. I bought it for someone for a Christmas present and they just went to watch it the other day and discovered they can't watch it. Please contact me to refund my money. Extremely disappointed.

Would not play on my DVD/Blu Ray player
I read the reviews before buying, and it was mentioned that it would not play on some US DVD/Blu Ray players. But in the details, it said the Blu Ray version would. I took a chance and purchased it. It will not play on on my DVD/Blu Ray player. It looks as if you will need a multi region player for it to work. I will be returning it.

Misleading
It didn’t make it clear on the seller’s page that it was only for a specific region so I can’t even play it
