Yes. It is cotton. Cotton has a smooth fiber, and does not have miniscule scales on the fiber surface like wool does. I've knit a sweater in this. It's perfectly soft against the skin.

Q: I’m looking for a yarn I could crochet around a silicone bead for sensory chewing that will hold up to wear/not be toxic. Will this work?

I guess this would be ok. It is a finer, thinner fingering weight yarn, so it is thinner.

Q: Is this considered a chunky yarn? What size crochet hook is recommended or this yarn?

This is a thin, fingering weight yarn. So, a size C-2 to E-4 would work well. Perhaps up to F, possibly. I just depends on how loose/open or tight you would like your crocheted piece to be.

Q: Is it good for making wash cloths?

It is a much lighter strand of cotton than is typically used for crochet wash cloths. I purchased it to make Lacey crochet edging.
