Technology marvel that compensates my age-related high frequency hearing loss
In short: - It is really a great hearing aid,I like it and I am keeping it: It improves my hearing of fricatives and high frequencies. It does not block my ear so I can hear what I would normally hear plus frequency modified sound through the hearing aid. There is no audible feedback, echo or delay which is all great. So it does what Eargo claims - augments your hearing.- It is completely invisible in your ear channel and batteries recharge overnight.- Yes there is an mobile phone app - not even close to the quality of the device - but I suggest that you use it to set Bass (low frequencies) and Treble (high frequencies) to -,0 or +. We can assume that the values correspond to Low, Medium and High volume in each band. 0, i.e. medium, is preset. So there are 9 possible combinations and I assume that each of them corresponds to a nice frequency curve that compensates some typical age related hearing loss. I am a signal and speech processing engineer and thus my delight with the device and my guesses about curves - I was not able to get any strict technical details about it - which I'll describe below.- Once you connect the charger press immediately "programs" and then "Bass & Treble"- The booklet says that Program 1 to 4 are in an increasing volume level order. I found level 3 and 4 too loud and a lot of squeaking. Thus I set both Bass and Treble to "-" i.e. "low" for both Left and Right ear. I don't plan to use Programs 3 or 4 for now but sometimes you have to cycle through them and it is an unpleasant noise.- Eargo insists on cleaning and that is correct: The speaker and mic openings are tiny and easily plugged by wax. The contacts on aids and the charger are sensitive too and I use a tissue wet with cleaning alcohol to wipe them.- The aids are extremely comfortable. I use regular Flexi TetraPalms tips - they fit well and I am comfortable even playing tennis for hours with them. There is a pair of new "Regular FlexiFiber" that look nice and fancy - though they are regular, for me the seem to be small i.e. don't fit. I wish that there is a larger sample. - I hope that one day this type of hearing aid will be affordable and available for older people just like reading glasses are now.Now a little bit more technical:I went to an audiologist with my Eargo HiWi with an intention to evaluate my hearing and my eargo. Yes, they did evaluate my hearing and I am attaching the audiogram and the Word Recognition Score (WRS). Unfortunately they did not want to evaluate my Eargo - because they don't fit it - and they have no other completely in-canal device with rechargeable batteries. I think that Ergo should tell you what is a typical audiogram that each Program and the setting fits. Yes, everybody's ear is different - but the ballpark characteristic should be known. I insisted on this technical data - - to no avail.Anyway - for me and my attached audiogram - the Level 1 with the default Bass/Treble "0" settings is the great fit. I did try to push up "+" treble but I get more metallic noise so I reverted to the default setting. As you can see my WRS at audiologist is 76% which is "fair" - I wanted them to do it with my Eargo on - but no success. Since I do want to have at least some quantitative measure of the improvenet I asked my wife to read to me "NU-6 Word List" (google it) and yes I do understand her much better and get higher word recognition score with aids. Of course to be accurate you need to play recorded words in a calibrated environment.Back to the app: It is really just confusing not only because the use "Preset A B C D" instead of "Program 1 2 3 4" but also the descriptions are confusing too. The more I wanted to understand it - the more I was confused. It has to be redone from scratch. The only useful thing is the Bass/Treble setting that I already described.- I hope that the next Eargo generation - let's call it Ergo HiF BlueFi will have bluetooth connection in the device itself so you can use it instead of regular ear buds for phone calls and music listening.Hope that my review is helpful and that eargo will come with a better one:)Added on 10/11/2020While eargo emphasized the importance of cleaning the aid the little brush and a piece of cloth are really not adequate: I found a "professional" hearing aid vacuum cleaner that I purchased (see the picture) and found very useful. It vacuums wax from the little holes much better than you can do it by brushing.Added on 12/06/20203 weeks ago my right device started to have a lot of audio feedback especially when I bring my hand to the ear then the device completely stopped working - no audio at all except for the initial "level 1". I sent an email to eargo support and got the replacement in about a week.By now I am so used to the devices that I barely know when I have them in my ears - except of course for better hearing.05/31/2021Meanwhile I had another 2 device failures. Got the replacements again in about a week just by sending an email. This morning I have my right device "dead" and asked for a replacement.I am still happy with the functionality of the aids but reliability is not great. So far the replacements are free but after one year I'll be paying $280 per replacement. Hope that they come up with a more reliable model. Would like to know weather other people have a similar experience.07/06/2021 I was really disappointed with another device failure but was happy when I got the replacement in 4 days. I am so thankful to my customer service representative Sarah. I am not disclosing her last name but if you think that you need better help from eargo ask for her - I am sure they don't have many representatives with that name.Still holding my high rating because of the functionality but unhappy with the reliability - can't wait for a new much more reliable model.

Now they want me to spend time with them on the phone
Update: I contacted them, but their only solution seems to be for me to spend time with them on the phone. I'm sure that they mean well, but repeating to them over the phone the fact that the charger simply stopped working (pretty much as the earpieces did) isn't likely to make them come pack to life. As I understand, a number of other suppliers (see consumer reports if you can access) provide better service at similar costs.I have used them intermittently (they don't help all that much with TV, what I wear them for). I have had problems off and on with them, and recently had them replaced under warranty. Now the charger has simply stopped working. There is no support in the evening (when I'm trying to watch TV). They are less expensive than many hearing aids, but if they don't work and keep failing, it's not clear to me that being less expensive just means constant headaches. "We'll be back tomorrow" is what I saw tonight when I needed support...

AMAZING - wish I bought them sooner!!!
One of the best purchases I’ve made in a looong time! (bought them in 2020 & I hardly ever write reviews but these are that AMAZING!) I knew my hearing was bad, but never did anything about it because the appointments & screenings seemed like such a hassle. Then with Covid, it got even more difficult to understand people when everyone started wearing masks. I never realized how much I was compensating by trying to read lips when people talked. If I had known how much it would improve my daily life, I would have bought them sooner. The small size of the devices & being nearly invisible was a huge factor in finally doing something about it (I’m 44 and very self-conscious about needing hearing aids). Being able to do a virtual assessment & ordering online sealed the deal for me. They’re so comfortable that I usually forget I’m even wearing them, except for the fact that I can hear better. When I ran into an issue & needed a replacement (started getting an occasional crackling/snapping sound due to moisture), it was super easy to get in touch with customer support and they were very friendly & helpful. They stood behind their warranty and exchanging the devices was quick & simple. I think I got the replacement within 2 days.Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend Eargo’s to anyone. Every experience I’ve had, from the initial purchase to customer support over the last 2 years has been nothing but positive. Hands down, this is one of the best investments I’ve made & it’s made a huge difference in my daily life. Even my husband loves them & the fact that the TV volume doesn’t have to be so loud anymore …the neighbors probably appreciate that too! :)
