Handbook of the Mammals of the World – Volume 3: Primates Hardcover – April 1, 2013

This book is the most comprehensive guide to primates that is available anywhere in the market.It is full of precise information of each species and subspecies of every documented primate in the world. I am an aspiring primatologist and this book was a must buy for me. It is quite a large book but it is full of illustrations of each species as well as their locations, diet, behavior, etc...Though the price tag is hefty, in my opinion it is worth it if you really want to learn about primates in depth. Not only does it list each primate but it includes a large introduction to each family of primates full of information and wonderful photos.A lot of love and care went into this book and I highly suggest any primate or animal enthusiast for that matter to purchase it.

This series is a must for anyone who works with mammals. It is well developed and has great information. In these days of easy technology it is nice to have a source we know we can trust.

A fantastic book with great info and lots of color plates

As a primatologist in Colombia I have found this marvelous volume, edited by R. A- Mittermeier, A. B. Rylands and D. F. Wilson to be the very best volume I have ever read reviewing in depth all the known primates of the world. The editors chose experts on each species to write the species accounts. The images are superb and voluminous. I could not recommend this more heartily to others interested in primates, especially for primatologists and those inverested in this group. My only criticism is that it is a very heavy book. But this illustrates the available information about primates. However, we need to do a lot more research and we need to pay strong attention to the need to conserve each species. This, of course, is also treated in this fine book.

Whilst each species gets a relatively short section, it is nonetheless detailed. In my opinion worth the price, (but not essential for anyone although I suggest it if you have a love for primates) even if it gets quickly outdated due to the discovery of new species.
