Disappointed with product
I was super excited with the dimensions of the Mold. I was looking forward to creating a walkway leading to my She Shed. Well, as I attempted to snap the two pieces together the mold broke. The plastic notches does not line up properly, so as I try my hardest to not be too forceful the darn thing broke. Well, I’m going to try and still use the mold since I’m ready to get this project complete before family arrives for the holiday. Another viewer said same but I thought it won’t happen to me! Works as intended...but there are some things to know!
I love this thing. I bought three of them to make the work go faster. Here is what I learned:Make the mixture according to directions. Use some pigment powder if you don't like the standard white/gray concrete mix color. We opted to leave it natural looking but used black poly sand from Rhino products (Highly Recommend!) to give the pavers some contrast. We used a 5 gallon bucket to transfer the concrete from the mixer to the mold (we bought a mixer from Harbor Freight for $129 that works great!). Filling the bucket 3/4 worked to fill the entire mold perfectly. Tap the sides and top of the mold to 'seat' the mix. A small trawel helped to smooth the top.At first we waited 3 minutes before lifting. Big mistake. Doing this, pulls up the edges and makes them sort of sharp and pointed. Waiting 5 minutes avoids this. We also sprayed the molds with silicon mold release spray...it REALLY helps! We would leap frog: 1-Pour, 2- Smooth, 3- Let sit, [Move on to mold #2] repeat, [Move on to mold #3], remove Mold #1 and set in place next to mold #3 and so on. This really worked out nicely and we did a 12' by 12' patio in one day.Remember, these things come apart, so if you find yourself in a jam (as we did) and your measurements were somehow off, you can split the mold in 1/2 and then tape up the ones you don't need and just use one side of it. We had a 4 inch off-set due to mismeasuring (we didn't take into account the thickness of the molds). So we just used the smaller mold sides and taped off the bigger ones and it worked out just fine. Now, the smaller sides ended up becoming our boarder edge and it looks really nice!
