BETTER THEN EXPECTED
I typically do not write reviews but with this product.... I had to.This is the best made and best functioning fire starter stick I have ever come across. The quality of this stick along with the quality of the striker are nothing short of Top Shelf!!They even included a genuine leather wrist wrap/handle along with a carry case for it.I am VERY impressed with this product, and would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking to buy one

As good as round rods
It works. Seems to be difficult to keep the square flat edge, needs lots of practice. Striker is good length but came dull on all four edges...took forever to get half decent working sparking edges by hand.Works better with the bayite striker than with its own.Have to bear down on the flat edge to get any sparks (a lot of hit and miss), unlike other less expensive rods where a light touch will get lots of sparks. This rod throws lots of sparks that stick to tinder longer but I think it is because you have to use more force which means more magnesium is being scraped off and ignited. My rod seems to be pretty skinny (3/8") compared to the acclaimed 1/2". My round rods throw as much hot sticky sparks as this flat hex rod. This is not remarkable or out performing.Do not think this outfit out performs Bayite , 4 DB, Elite or other "lesser" brands. Do not think this rod is worth the extra $$$. The best I can say is that it does work, but it takes extra effort to achieve the same results by the round rods.

This is a high-quality piece of equipment buy it with confidence
Well I must say when I am packed this Little Jewel I was quite impressed with the ingenious design of the Ferro rod it's shaped like an octagon. With the handy little attach scraper you just merely strike and it throws out an amazing shower Sparks. I was able to spark a small shaving pile on the third strike and it started a nice little fire. This is not cheap but I will start a fire in the worst conditions be confident it's the best Ferro Rod kit I've ever had comes with a wonderful little case buy it I think I'll buy two or three more for gifts

Best fire rod I’ve tried to date
Works great, I light my charcoal grill all the time, makes a hot spark that travels well into my grill so I don’t have to burn my hand getting too close the steel that comes with this striker is the best I’ve seen, much better than the flimsy thin metal ones that come with other ones, and I have tried the other make of hex shape rod and I can’t tell the difference between and this one is not only cheaper but as I ,entwines a great steel striker that makes it the best deal

Fire Starter 1/2” Diagonal Length Hexagon Fire Steel 6”Length
This item is just as described. Has hex shape but rod is very bumpy causing striker to bounce across rod & puts out few sparks to begin with. I had to secure rod in a Vice so that I could use a large file to file down all the bumps on each side. After doing that, I then was able to use the striker to produce a good amount of sparks. Had I known what I was getting, I would have spent just a little more money for a quality hex fire rod. As for the striker, it is a very good one that the edges are sharp enough to produce a multitude of sparks after roughness was filed out. It also came with Paracord lanyard & moderately small S shaped caribiner.

Above and beyond
I expected a ferro rod and a striker. Very high quality when I would have accepted less! For example check out the quality of the clip of the striker!

Keep it as dry as you can
Makes fire fine but is susceptible to extreme corrosion in very little time if it becomes wet . I keep it in my mtb bag and it was wet for three days and when I took it out it had deep pits in the surface like Swiss cheese I’ll just have to protect it better I guess
